Area

The idyllic town has an old, gently restored town middle and a beautiful, well-preserved church. Large parts of 'the old Ringkøbing' appear in its original shape. The town offers good shopping possibilities, restaurants and sights. The surroundings are characterized by the gentle inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, the rough North Sea and the scenic nature areas, and in Ringkøbing you are always close to leisure activities and sights.

Beach

By Ringkøbing you will find a lovely bathing beach with a bathing jetty and Blue Flag. The beach has a sandy bottom. The water is shallow and without currents. Therefore the beach is very suitable for children. Furthermore the inlet offers ideal conditions for windsurfing. If you wish to swim by the lovely, long and wide sandy beaches of the North Sea, you can go to Søndervig, which lies only 9 km from Ringkøbing. Here the beach has fine, white sand, dunes and Blue Flag. The beach also invites long walks in the fresh air or sunbathing in a hollow.

Nature

Ringkøbing is surrounded by inlet landscapes, fields, river valleys and moors. Along the inlet you can follow a path on foot or on bicycle and enjoy the beautiful nature at close range. By the inlet 'Stadil Fjord' you can experience the open landscape of western Jutland with its quite amazing bird life (9 km). The scenic river valley 'Hover Å-dal' with the varied landscape, the mounds from the bronze age and the many small paths is situated behind Ringkøbing. The 118 hectares preserved moor 'Dejbjerg Hede', 20 km towards south, has a quite unusual scenic nature with undulating terrain, forest areas, stretches of moor and impressive grave mounds. From the highest points in the area you can enjoy a great view of the Ringkøbing Fjord. Tipperne is a preserved bird sanctuary, situated on the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the Ringkøbing Fjord. Birds from all of Scandinavia stay here a while on their way between winter quarters and breeding areas (55 km).

Activities

The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous surf areas in northern Europe. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. In Ringkøbing you can play tennis, bowl and make use of a swimming baths. The area is also suitable for walks, bicycle and riding trips. Anglers can fish in Ringkøbing Fjord, in the North Sea as well as in the Put & Take fishponds 'Mejlbygård Lystfiskeri', 'Stampevejens Put & Take' in Ringkøbing and 'Høvring Sø' in No. The area is also attractive for golf players. The courses lay close here and the nearest are those of 'Holmsland Klit Golfklub' by Søndervig (9 km) and 'Dejbjerg Golf Klub' (21 km). Beach Bowl in Søndervig has activities for the whole family, like i.a. bowling alleys, pool tables, a play land, a restaurant and an English pub. In Søndervig you will also find a lovely water world with i.a. water slide, cave, children's pool, Turkish bath, jacuzzi, solariums and sauna (9 km).

Attractions

In Ringkøbing you will find more galleries, potteries, candle factories and other workshops, where you can follow the manufacturing. Ringkjøbing Museum is an archaeological and town historical museum and contains an exhibition about the polar explorer Mylius Eriksen among other things. 'Fiske- og Familiepark West' in Hee is a playground for the whole family. Here you can make use of a water world, drive in go-carts, stroke goats, jump on jumping cushions, ride with a train, play on the playground or fish in the 3 large fishponds (8 km). In Søndervig you can experience the 'Rock & Roll Museum' with i.a. an Elvis Presley collection. The house of the black smiths 'Smedenes Hus' in Lem is an interesting museum. With alternating exhibitions and arrangements it shows the industrial history of the town (13 km). The old, well-preserved and restored watermill of Bundsbæk is situated by the preserved marsh 'Bjørnemose'. See how grain is milled and bread baked in the old stone oven (19 km).

Excursion spots

Dejbjerg Jernalder is an iron age museum with reconstructions, exhibitions and vitalization of iron age families, handicraft and activities (21 km). The town Hvide Sande is the 5th. largest fishing harbour in Denmark. 'Fiskernes Hus' in Hvide Sande is a contemporary museum, which informs of the story of the fish - from the North Sea to the consumer (21 km). At the museum of vintage aircraft 'Dansk Veteranfly Museum' you can see the country¿s largest collection of KZ-aircrafts (25 km). The regional museum 'Abelines Gård' has been established in a 130 years old farm on the bar Holmsland Klit (30 km). The wreckage museum 'St. George' in Torsminde gives you a glimpse of daily life onboard the English warships 'St. George' and 'Defence'. See the interesting finds, like f.x. canons, gold coins, music instruments and weapons (42 km). In the viking harbour Bork Vikingehavn you will be set back 1,000 years. Experience the viking ships, the viking farm and the exhibition (47 km).
