Area

Blåvand is a vivid holiday town, both at day and at night, with a cosy atmosphere, a number of shops and several good restaurants, often with outdoor service in the summertime. Besides that the town has more cafés and pubs. Furthermore, the area offers a candle factory, a glassblowing, a pottery, amber-cutter's, a zoo as well as more interesting museums. Most of the holiday houses are situated in quiet recreation areas with scenic surroundings, however still close to the town and the many leisure activities. Please note: Military training occurs in the area.

Beach

Around Blåvand you will find wide sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. The beach Hvidbjerg Strand, facing south, is sheltered by the reef Horns Rev, which makes the beach very suitable for children. A paradise for everyone, who loves water, beach, sun, wind and water sport. Many concrete bunkers from the World War 2 still characterize the beach around the lighthouse Blåvandshuk Fyr. One of Denmark's most scenic sunsets over the North Sea can be observed from the beach, the dunes or the town. The beach invites strolls at all times of the year.

Nature

Blåvand is surrounded by a magnificent nature with large moors, forest areas, the finest white, sandy beaches, the bluish green roaring North Sea and Blåvandshuk, Denmark's most western point. The plantations behind Blåvand are inhabited by the country's larges stock of red deer. Kærgård Plantage is an impressive, hilly landscape with heather and gnarled old oaks. The lake Filsø used to be one of the country's largest lakes, and today the area forms a 150-hectare bird sanctuary. The peninsular Skallingen is a conservation area, which is situated right opposite of Blåvand. It is one of the Danish natural treasures, from which you have a view of both Esbjerg and Fanø. Many migratory birds use Skallingen as an eating and resting-place, and they can be observed from the bird tower on the spot.

Activities

The Blåvand area is rich in leisure activities. You will find ideal conditions for golf, kite flying, angling, beach volley, horseback riding, bowling and much more. It is even possible to climb on the bunkers on the beach. The large state forests as well as the lovely beaches of the area invite hikes. Around Blåvand a net of bicycle paths and marked walking tracks are available. The fair Ho Fåremarked takes place every year in late August on Skallingen and it is always a real draw.

Attractions

The reef Horns Rev forms the base for the world's largest offshore wind farm. Visit the windmill exhibition in the building next to the lighthouse Blåvandshuk Fyr - the most western point in Denmark. From the 39 m high lighthouse, which was built in 1900, you have an amazing view of the North Sea, the bay Ho Bugt, Blåvand and the surrounding area. Many concrete bunkers from World War 2 still lie around the lighthouse. The church Aal Kirke in Oksbøl from the 12th century is famous for its many frescos. A German refugee cemetery is situated right outside Oksbøl. Blåvand Naturcenter informs about the nature, the vegetation and the wildlife of the west coast. Tirpitz-stillingen is a reopened bunker, which shows an exhibition about the role of the position in the German coastal defence. In Blåvand Museum you can learn about the inhabitants of the district and the terms of life here throughout the years.

Excursion spots

Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries a.s.o. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting. LEGOLAND, app. 80 km from Blåvand, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities.
