Area

The cosy and quiet holiday area Skodbjerge is situated between Haurvig and Bjerregård on the bar Holmsland Klit. Towards the west lies the sandy bathing beaches of the North Sea and towards the east you have a view of the bird sanctuary Tipperne and Værneengene in the southern end of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. Right south of Skodbjerge the holiday house area Bjerregård is located. Here you will find a grocer, tennis courts, minigolf and horse rental. From Bjerregård and up along Holmsland Klit you can either walk or drive on bicycle on the path 'naturstien', which winds through the dunes and the holiday house areas, all the way up to Søndervig. The vivid and cosy town Hvide Sande is situated about 13 km north of Skodbjerge and has museums, a fishing harbour, good shopping possibilities and more restaurants.

Beach

Skodbjerge has a fine wide and sandy beach with high dunes. The bottom is sandy as well, but the water is rather deep. Here you can swim, sun bathe, play ball, collect seashells, perhaps find amber and enjoy the magnificent sunset over the North Sea. You are not allowed to bring your car to the beach. It is also possible to swim in the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, where the water is calmer and more shallow that that of the North Sea.

Nature

The area is characterized by undulating nature and dune areas, which invite walks on all times of the year. Skodbjerge is surrounded by sea, beach and dunes on the one side and inlet with forest of reeds and vigorous salt meadows on the other. Tipperne is a preserved bird sanctuary, situated on the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the bottom of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. Birds from all of Scandinavia stay here a while on their way between their winter quarters and their breeding areas.

Activities

The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous surf areas in northern Europe as the conditions are ideal. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here 3 golf courses lie within in the immediate vicinity of Skodbjerge. Riding horses can be rented in the area. Anglers have ideal conditions in this area, as it is possible to fish in the sea, in the inlet and in a Put & Take fishpond by Årgab. Deep-sea fishing is also possible onboard a fishing vessel, departing from Hvide Sande. The area has an extensive network of nature and bicycle paths, and good nature experiences await you along the paths. You will find the bicycle route 'National 1' right behind the dunes.

Attractions

At the highway in Haurvig you can see one of the old navigation marks that used to help the sailor and fishermen in their navigation in the 19th. century. The navigation mark is made out of wood and placed on a high dune towards the sea. The whitewashed church of Haurvig from the year 1869 is scenically situated by the inlet in an open nature landscape. The historic life saving station 'Haurvig Redningsstation' was established in the year 1860. The regional museum 'Abelines Gård' is an old dune farm from the 1860ies, situated close to Skodbjerge. From the dunes around 'Abelines Gård' you have a beautiful view of the landscape, the sea and the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. The town Hvide Sande, situated in the middle of the bar Holmsland Klit, is the 5th largest fishing harbour in Denmark. The town offers a mixture of vivid activity and quiet charm. Visit f.x. 'Fiskernes Hus' with the large west coast aquarium. Fish auctions for tourists are arranged in Hvide Sande as well.

Excursion spots

The pretty old market town Ringkøbing with its red tiled roofs and old cobbled streets lies about 35 km from Skodbjerge and is definitely worth a visit. LEGOLAND, app. 95 km from Skodbjerge, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities. In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area. Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries a.s.o. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting.
