The magnificent nature, the gentle environment by the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, the many kilometres of sandy beaches at the North Sea, the quality holiday houses and the numerous leisure activities turn Søndervig into an attractive holiday destination, and the town attracts many guests every year. Here you will find something for every taste whether you feel like visiting museums or small harbours, bowling, bathing in the sea or in a water world, kite and wind surfing, playing golf, hiking, cycling or riding. The town has a shopping mall with all the necessary shops. Equally you will find more restaurants in town.

Beach

The lovely, long and wide beach has fine sand, dunes and Blue Flag. The beach offers good possibilities of long walks in the fresh air or of sunbathing in a dune hollow.

Nature

Søndervig is a unique area between the sea and the inlet. The nature on the isthmus Holmsland Klit is a scenic and magnificent landscape with moors and high dunes - one of the most interesting and varied areas at the west coast. The sea and the inlet meet here.

Activities

The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous kite and windsurf areas in northern Europe as the conditions are ideal. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. The beautifully situated 27-hole golf course at Holmsland Klit lies close to Søndervig. Beach Bowl has activities for the whole family, i.a. bowling alleys, pool tables, play land, a restaurant and an English pub. Furthermore, big sporting events and the like are displayed on a giant screen here. In Søndervig a wonderful water world with i.a. water slide, cave, children's pool, Turkish bath, jacuzzi, sun beds and saunas is available. A 14 km long bicycle path leads you from Søndervig through the dune landscape, past the lighthouse Nr. Lyngvig Fyr and all the way to Hvide Sande. Furthermore, you can play minigolf and rent bicycles in Søndervig. The angler has ideal conditions here, as it is possible to fish along the coast and in Put & Take lakes.

Attractions

From the 38 metres high lighthouse Nr. Lyngvig Fyr, 6 km south of Søndervig, you can enjoy the fabulous view of the North Sea and the landscape. At the foot of the lighthouse you can learn more about the vegetation and animals of the area. The old and pretty market town Ringkøbing with red tiled roofs and old cobbled streets are located app. 9 km from Søndervig. The town offers atmosphere, charm and more museums, galleries and artist craftsmen in action. The inviting harbour town Hvide Sande is located in the centre of the isthmus Holmsland Klit. Here you can visit the house of the fishermen ‘Fiskernes Hus – Vestkystakvariet’, fish auctions and a candle factory (12 km). The amusement park ‘Fiske- og Familiepark West’ in Hee is a playground for the whole family. Here you can use an aquapark, try go-carts, stroke goats, drive with a train, play on a playground and angle in 3 large fishponds (18 km).

Excursion spots

The regional museum ’Abelines Gård’ is a well-preserved beach farm from the 1860ies in scenic settings near Nørre Haurvig. Here you can sense the past (20 km). The wreck museum ’Strandingsmuseet St. George' in Thorsminde gives you an insight into daily life onboard the wrecked English warships St. George and Defence. See the interesting finds like canons, gold coins, music instruments and wapons (33 km). In Jyllands Park Zoo near Videbæk you can experience, stroke and feed more than 700 animals from the whole world (33 km). The bird sanctuary Tipperne by the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is a bird Mekka - thousands of migratory birds can be observed here (43 km). In the viking harbour ‘Bork Vikingehavn’ you step back 1,000 years. Experience viking ships, the viking farm and the exhibition. The area is vitalized during the high season (44 km). LEGOLAND - 'The most amusing playground for the whole family' - offers knights in armour, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (91 km).
