Area

A holiday house stay in Sjælborg offers possibilities for a very varied holiday, as Sjælborg is situated in a fabulous nature area and at the time very close to the harbour town Esbjerg. It is possible to bye groceries in Hjerting, 3 km from Sjælborg. In Blåvand, about 25 km from Sjælborg, you will find an abundance of leisure activities - 24 hours a day - as well as good shopping possibilities and many restaurants.

Beach

Sjælborg is situated close to a calm beach in the bay Ho Bugt. The beach is suitable for children as the water is shallow. If you wish to experience the fabulous wide and white sandy beached of the North Sea, the distance to both the beach of Skallingen and the beach of Blåvand is no more than 25 km. Skallingen has a lovely white and sandy beach. A rather long walk from the parking grounds leads you through a scenic area to the beach. Further out you will reach the end of Skallingen 'Skalling Ende', and from here you have a view of the island Fanø and the town Esbjerg. Blåvand is surrounded by a wide and white sandy beach as far as the eye can see. You are not allowed to bring your car to the beach. The beach is a paradise for everyone who loves water, beach, sun, wind and water sport.

Nature

The nature around the bay Ho Bugt is very versatile. The area has open plains with area of meadow and forest areas with state forest. The dune plantation 'Ho Klitplantage', between Ho and Blåvand, is a large preserved dune and moor landscape with marked paths and viewpoints, from which you can experience a magnificent view of the dune landscape and the peninsular Skallingen, which is preserved and appointed as a scientific area. Here you can walk all the way out to the tip and experience the seals as the gambol in the deep tide stream and channels. The bird life and vegetation of the area are quite unique. Many migratory birds use Skallingen as a resting and eating area, and they can be observed from the observation posts on the spot. The plantations behind Blåvand are inhabited by the country's larges stock of red deer.

Activities

The area offers good nature experiences, walks along the coast of the bay Ho Bugt, bicycle trips to f.x. Skallingen, sails on the bay with the small island Langli and the rich bird life. Anglers have good possibilities for a haul along the coast or in one the Put & Take fishponds of the area. Try f.x. the lakes Ho Fiskesø and Broeng Fiskepark. In Ho you will find a first class 18-hole golf course. Furthermore, golf courses in f.x. Esbjerg, Blåvand and Varde are available. In the holiday centre Ho Feriecenter you can try out the bowling alleys.

Attractions

Visit the town Esbjerg and experience f.x. the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries, the many interesting shops and the good restaurants (13 km). At the fishery and shipping museum in Esbjerg 'Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet' you can experience the colourful fish and dangerous sharks in the large aquariums. In the harbour of Esbjerg you can go on a cosy harbour excursion. Impressive historic handicraft can be experienced at the amber museum 'Ravmuseet' and the regional museum 'Blåvandshuk Egnsmuseum' in Oksbøl. The church Aal Kirke in Oksbøl from the 12th. century is famous for its many frescos. A German refugees cemetery is situated right outside (13 km).

Excursion spots

From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting. The preserved bird sanctuary Tipperne at the southern end of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is a bird Mekka - thousands of migratory birds can be observed here (53 km). LEGOLAND, app. 65 km from Sjælborg, is build out of 44 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities. In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area.
