Area

Haurvig is located on the bar Holmsland Klit, which separates the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord from the North Sea. A recreational and cosy holiday destination for the whole family. At the highway in Haurvig you can see one of the old navigation marks that used to help the sailor and fishermen in their navigation in the 19th. century. The navigation mark is made out of wood and placed on a high dune towards the sea. Furthermore Haurvig is famous for its old life saving station, the scenically situated church, the museum 'Abelines Gård' as well as the small cosy inlet harbour 'Kirkehavnen'. Årgab, about 3 km north of Haurvig, offers a water world, tennis courts, minigolf, a Put & Take fishpond and a grocer. The vivid and cosy town Hvide Sande, about 8 km north of Haurvig, has museums, a fishing harbour, good shopping possibilities and more restaurants.

Beach

The wide beach at Haurvig has fine sand, a sandy bottom and high dunes. Here you can swim, sunbathe, play ball, walk, collect sea shells, perhaps find a peace of amber and enjoy the magnificent sunset over the North Sea. It is also possible to swim in the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, where the water is calmer than that of the North Sea.

Nature

Haurvig is a slightly hilly dune and nature area with different trees and bushes. Sea, beach and dunes on one side and inlet with forest of reeds and vigorous salt meadows on the other surround the area.

Activities

The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous surf areas in northern Europe as the conditions are ideal. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. You can rent riding horses in the area. Anglers have good possibilities for a haul in the sea, in the inlet as well as in the Put & Take fishpond close to Årgab. Deep-sea fishery trips are arranged in Hvide Sande. Good nature experiences await you along the extensive network of nature and bicycle paths of the area. The bicycle route 'National 1' is available right behind the dunes.

Attractions

The whitewashed church 'Haurvig Kirke' from the year 1869 is scenically situated at the inlet in an open nature landscape. The historic life saving station 'Haurvig Redningsstation' was established in the year 1860. The regional museum 'Abelines Gård' is an old dune farm from the 1860ies, situated close to Haurvig. From the dunes around 'Abelines Gård' you have a beautiful view of the landscape, the sea and the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. The town Hvide Sande, situated in the middle of the bar Holmsland Klit, is the 5th largest fishing harbour in Denmark. The town offers a mixture of vivid activity and quiet charm. 'Fiskernes Hus' in Hvide Sande is a contemporary museum that informs of the story of the fish - all the way from the North Sea to the consumer. Furthermore, fish auctions for tourists are arranged here.

Excursion spots

The preserved bird sanctuary Tipperne at the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is a bird Mekka - thousands of migratory birds can be observed here. The pretty old market town Ringkøbing with its red tiled roofs and old cobbled streets lies about 30 km from Haurvig and is definitely worth a visit. LEGOLAND, app. 100 km from Haurvig, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities. In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area.
