Ticks - Practical-info

Ticks

Ticks are just a few millimetres long. They live in long grass and in forests. From April to October you ought to check yourselves thoroughly for ticks when you have walked in forests or long grass. The best way to avoid attacks is to wear long trousers, long-sleeved shirts and Wellingtons.

If you are bitten, you have to remove the tick as soon as possible with a pair of tweezers or a ticks-remover-card, which is available in pharmacies. After the removal, you have to wash the bite with water and perhaps a disinfectant. If the tick is removed within the first 24 hours, you will avoid being infected with the bacterium Borrelia, which can cause the unpleasant Lyme disease.
