Vilslev is an idyllic old village in South Jutland, which has been able to preserve its charm and more of its original buildings. Among other things the village contains a beautiful church with a scenic and dramatic location at the edge of the salt meadows, an impressive vicarage in late classicistic style as well as more characteristic and well preserved farms and buildings.
The stream Kongeåen winds through Vilslev, which is located 4 km from the Jutland Wadden Sea, 8 km north of Ribe and 22 km south of Esbjerg.
To the west of Vilslev you will find the small ridge Herredsbjeget (8 metres above sea level), where graves and remains of settlements have been found.
It is possible to buy groceries in Vilslev.
The Jutland Wadden Sea is located 4 km from Vilslev, but is not suitable for swimming. If you wish to experience the wide and sandy beaches of the North Sea, you can go to the island Rømø, which offers the beach Lakolk Strand: one of Europe’s widest and most beautiful sandy beaches (49 km).
The beautiful stream Kongeåen winds through Vilslev and the nature, surrounding the village, is characterized by green scenic river valleys, salt meadows and moorland plain. By the water mill Jedsted Mølle the stream is surrounded by forest and a rich birdlife. Between Vilslev and the Jutland Wadden Sea you will fin a 2 km wide and completely level zone with marsh and moor landscapes.
The scenic river valleys invite walks and bicycle trips.
Anglers can try their luck in the stream Kongeåen by the water mill Jedsted Mølle (2 km), by the shore, on the sea or in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area.
Golf players can test the 18-hole course of Ribe Golf Klub (16 km) or the courses Myrtuebanen and Marbækbanen at Esbjerg Golf Klub (37 km).
With its old beautiful environments, Denmark’s oldest town Ribe creates a charming atmosphere. Besides evocative town life, Ribe offers a cathedral, the museum Ribes Vikinger, the Viking centre Ribe VikingeCenter, an art museum and the petting zoo Minidyrehaven Ribelund among others (8 km).
In Safari Zoo Park near Lindtrup you can experience alligators, reptiles, monkeys and birds in flowering surroundings (22 km).
In western Jutland’s capital Esbjerg you will find a vivid commercial and cultural life as well as a number of museums and sights, e.g. the art museum Esbjerg Kunstmusem and the aquarium Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet (22 km).
From Esbjerg you can sail out to the island Fanø in minutes. With its old idyllic town environments, houses with thatched roofs, scenic nature and unique bathing beaches, Fanø is definitely worth a visit.
Move into the world of the Iron Age in the park Hjemsted Oldtidspark near Skærbæk. The centre contains among other things a museum, an Iron Age farm, graves and underground passages (32 m).
Visit the island Rømø with Europe’s widest sandy beach, lovely bathing water as well as the magnificent and serene nature and animal live (45 km).
LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million toy bricks. More than 50 activities provide you with speed, excitement and experiences! 'The funniest playground for the whole family' offers knights in armaments, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much, much more (66 km).
Løveparken in Givskud is a combined lion park and zoo. Here you can meet more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares beautiful area (86 km).
