The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord offers good conditions for windsurfing. The North Sea is lies about 30 km from Stauning, and here you will find the long fine and sandy beaches with dunes and Blue Flag.


Dejbjerg is situated a few km behind Stauning, and here the nature is quite unique. The hill Skovbjerg Bakkeø rises above the outwash plain from the ice age in the middle of the level Western Jutland, and together they form the river valley Skjernå-dalen. Forest areas and stretches of moorland characterize the undulating terrain of Dejbjerg. A number of impressive grave mounds can also be observed here. From the highest points in the area you can enjoy the view over the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. The stream and meadow area Skjern Å and Skjern Enge has an outstanding bird life. The stream Skjern Å is one of Denmark's most abounding in water and has many turnings and windings. A bird tower is placed by the mouth of the stream Skjern å, and from here you have a good view of the river valley. It is peaceful, quiet and idyllic here. Tipperne is a preserved bird sanctuary, situated on the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the bottom of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord.


This area is ideal for anglers, who can throw the line out in the stream Skjern Å, the lake Fahlbæk Sø or the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous surf areas in northern Europe as the conditions are ideal. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. You can rent equipment for surfing at the surf school in Bork Havn. Good nature experiences await you along the many bicycle tracks around Stauning.

Worth a visit

Bousøgård is a typical Western Jutland farm from the previous century. The farm is built round a quadrangle, has a thatched roof and contains a pottery, where articles for everyday use, made out of clay, is produced according to old traditions. By the workshop you will find a museum for Danish decorated pottery, and a large art gallery is established in the old barn. The church of Stauning is one of the largest in the area and reflects the prosperity that characterized the parish in the old days. At the museum of vintage aircraft 'Dansk Veteranfly Museum' you can see the country's largest collection of KZ-aircrafts, which are made in Denmark. The old well-preserved watermill in Bundsbæk is one of the few preserved watermills in western Jutland. You can also see a forge and a bakery here. South of the mill, a small iron age village has been built, and during the summer, a family live here like our ancestors lived 2,000 years ago.

Excursion spots

In the viking harbour Bork Vikingehavn you will be set back 1,000 years. Experience the viking ships in the harbour, the viking farm and the exhibition. The area is vitalized during the high season. Visit the old and pretty provincial town Ringkøbing. The town is characterized by its houses with red tiled roofs and its old cobbled streets LEGOLAND, app. 65 km from Stauning, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities. In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area. Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries a.s.o. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting.
