Rudbøl is situated on the boundary between Denmark and Germany, in a scenic area with a rich bird life, a few km from the Wadden Sea.

The cosy town Rudbøl is surrounded by the characteristic South Jutland nature with level marshland, lakes, wetlands and the Wadden Sea. The Danish-German border passes right through the town and the belonging lake 'Rudbøl Sø'. The area is very attractive for anglers, bird enthusiasts, nature lovers and cultural persons.
Rudbøl offers good shopping possibilities and more restaurants.
Rudbøl is situated only a few km from the Wadden Sea, but the nearest sandy beach lies by Emmerlev Klev, 13 km towards north. This beach has a sandy bottom and shallow water and therefore it is very suitable for children. Furthermore, you have a fabulous view of the Wadden Sea and the islands Sild and Rømø from Emmerlev Klev.
If you wish to experience the large, wide and white sandy beaches of the North Sea, you can go on a trip to the island Rømø, where you will find one of Europe's widest and the most beautiful beaches 'Lakolk Strand' (48 km).
After a storm it is sometimes possible to find amber along the shores of the Wadden Sea and on the beach of Rømø.
The level marshland, surrounding Rudbøl, has a rich bird life. The lake 'Rudbøl Sø' lies right by the town, and the stream 'Vidå', which is abounding in fish, meanders around the town.
The marsh and the dikes protect the area against the Watten Sea year round.
The preserved area around Højer, 9 km towards north, has a rich bird life, which can be observed from the many hiking trails.
Often you are able to observe seals, which stay in the western parts of the Wadden Sea, but often seek towards the floodgate Højer Sluse in order to find food.
Every spring and autumn you can be fortunate enough to experience the unforgettable phenomenon 'black sun'. One million starlings gather shortly before sunset, and perform, according to the locals, a drama in the sky.
The nature of the area is both rough and manifold. Follow f.x. the path 'Æ Markmandssti' over the meadows 'Husum Enge' by Ballum and experience the distinguished and quite unique marsh.
In South Jutland, anglers have good possibilities, as it is possible to fish along the shores of the sea, in the lake 'Rudbøl Sø' and in the streams 'Vidå' in the river valley 'Vidå-dalen', 'Brede Å', 'Rejsby Å' and 'Brøns Å'. Furthermore, the area offers more Put & Take fishponds.
A bowling centre is available in Tønder (12 km).
In Skærbæk, 39 km towards north, you can drive in go-carts on the track of the town.
Golf players can test the interesting courses of f.x. 'Tønder Golf Klub' and 'Arrild Golf Klub'.
The characteristic nature of the area can be explored on foot or on bicycle along the many walking and bicycle paths of the area.
The old Renaissance chapel from the Middle Ages in the town Møgeltønder (7 km) and the park, surrounding the castle Schackenborg, are worth a visit.
The mill and marsh museum 'Højer Mølle- og Marskmuseum' has been established in Denmark's largest Deutsch mill and shows an exhibition about flood and life in the marsh. The floodgates 'Højer Gl. Sluse' from 1861 and 'Vidåslusen', the new floodgate in Højer from 1980, were both erected in order to protect the coast of the area (9 km).
Experience the old ruined palace 'Trøjborg', which is situated in a small forest by Visby. Dual moats and centuries old trees surround the remains. It is said that the former owner haunts the place at night (11 km).
Visit Tønder and experience the cosy atmosphere in Denmark's provincial town with the interesting historic museums and the many good restaurants (12 km).
Between Emmerlev and Hjerpsted you will find 32 mounds from the bronze ages (13 km).
The church Hjerpsted Kirke was build out of granite in 1150, and with its location right at the ocean, the church is a very beautiful sight (16 km).
Southern Jutland has a number of historical sights. Visit for example the culture town Løgumkloster and go exploring in the interesting convent, erected by monks in the 12th. century (29 km).
Visit the island Rømø, which offers a scenic nature, lovely beaches, well-preserved Rømø farms, an amusement park, more museums, many craftsmen, a rich bird and animal life and a cosy atmosphere (34 km to the dam).
LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities (136 km).
