Hoven is a small cosy and active village in the beautiful Western Jutland nature. The village is located 17 km east of the town Tarm and is surrounded by moor, plantation, and a number of streams, fields, green spaces and woods. The many streams and lakes of the area provide good opportunities for anglers.
Hoven has its own village museum and nearby the impressive estate Heimdal Gods decorate the landscape. Furthermore, Hoven is famous for its potato production and its large trout pond farm.
You can buy groceries in the village and dine on the inn Hoven Kro.
As Hoven is located in the interior part of Denmark, the town has no shore or bathing beach. If you wish to swim, you can go to the inlet Ringkøbing fjord and enjoy the shallow and calm water (30 km). The North Sea is situated about 50 km or an hours drive towards west and offers long fine and sandy beaches with dunes and Blue Flag.
A 50 kilometres long stretch of streams winds through the idyllic nature around Hoven.
Large open moor areas and plantations surround Hoven. You can walk in Sønder Grene Plantage, Hejmdal Plantage, Påbøl Plantage, Hårkær Plantage, Sønder Omme Plantage and Tirsbjerg Plantage, which contains Denmark’s largest population of red deer. The plantations are beautiful in all seasons.
The streams Hoven Å and Omme Å both wind through the northern part of Hoven. A number of other streams, which are all well stocked with fish, flow through the unspoiled landscape around Hoven.
Just east of Hoven you can observe a colony of herons. Goshawk, green woodpecker, black woodpecker and raven breed here as well.
The area is a paradise for anglers, as a number of streams and Put & Take fishponds are available here. Among others you can visit Stakroge Fiskesø (8 km), Adsbøl Sø near Ølgod (12 km), Svanholm Lystfiskersø by Sønder Felding (12 km) as well as Grindsted Fiskersø, Kroager Mergelgrav and Filskov Put & Take - all near Grindsted (19 km).
Par3golf is a Pay & Play course, which is located just 2 km south of Hoven. Here you can play common golf, kick football golf and play cygnet golf with a net. You can also test the courses of Åskov Golfklub in Sønder-Felding (12 km) or Skærbæk Mølle Golfklub in Ølgod (12 km).
At the village museum Hoven Landsbymuseum you can see a collection about the Western Jutland nature and learn how the poor moor parish has developed into a well-run village.
At Grindsted Museum you can learn more about the regional area and its history. Grindsted also has an occupation museum, where you can get an insight into a normal day during the occupation (19 km).
Visit the museum farm Museumsgården Karensminde near Grindsted. You can examine the old farm at your leisure or experience the busy activity days with many visitors (20 km).
By the scenic moor areas and the forest by the stream Karstoft Å, you will find the former manor house Skarrildhus. Today, Skarrildhus is beautifully restored and surrounded by a lovely and romantic rhododendron park with an idyllic old watermill (20 km).
LEGOLAND® is build out of 50 million and offers more than 50 amusements with speed and excitement. The funniest playground for the whole family contains knights in armour, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (36 km).
Visit ’the capital of the moor’, the cosy town Herning. Here you will find a number of galleries, the museum of Steen Steensen Blicher and the amusement centre Baboon City among other things (38 km).
Givskud Zoo is a combined lion park and zoo. Here you can come close to lions, rhinos, monkeys, elephants, zebras, giraffes, bison, alpacas, wolfs and many other wild animals in their natural environment (43 km).
