Fanø Bad is situated on the western shore of Fanø, right by Denmark's oldest, 18-hole golf course from 1902 and only a few km from Nordby, the ferry and skipper town of the island. Here you can swim, surf, collect amber, play golf, tennis, minigolf and much more, or just relax and enjoy the scenic surroundings. It is possible to buy groceries and dine in Fanø Bad. The 56 square kilometre island is situated only 1.5 km from the main land, and the ferry crossing from Esbjerg to Fanø takes no more than 13 minutes. The old, idyllic and urban surroundings, the characteristic houses with thatched roofs, the narrow roads, the outstanding sandy beach, the fresh air, the scenic nature and the cosy island atmosphere make Fanø an attractive holiday destination.

Fanø Bad is situated right by the wide, white and sandy beach with dunes and the Blue Flag. By Fanø Bad and towards south you are allowed to drive on the beach. Towards north the beach is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. Here you will also find the sandy peninsular 'Søren Jessens Sand' with a lovely beach life and a good beach. Everywhere the beach is very suitable for children, as the sandy bottom only slopes slightly into the sea. However, the water gets deeper after every sand bar. The beach is 18 km long and stretches all the way from Fanø Bad to Sønderho. Due to the difference in water level during high and low tide, the possibilities of finding amber on the beach are very good. Furthermore, walks, swimming, surfing, kite flying and buggy driving are very popular activities here.


The unique nature is characterized by dune landscapes, moor areas with heather, dikes, marsh, fields, dunes, beach, the North Sea and the Jutland Wadden Sea. The nature is unspoiled and the island has a rich wildlife and an abundance of birds. More rare bird species can be seen here and the growing seal population can be observed on the sand banks at the coast. The dune plantation 'Fanø Klitplantage' is situated in the centre of the island, and here you will find 3 marked walking paths and a forest playground with a bbq area.


Right behind the dunes of Fanø Bad the beautiful, 18-hole and more than 100 years old golf course 'Fanø Golf Links' is situated in a scenic and undulating dune and heather landscape. In Fanø Bad you also have the opportunity of playing tennis, squash and minigolf, riding on horses, visiting a water world and engaging yourselves in various beach activities. An extended network of bicycle tracks enable you to drive around the island on two-way tracks. In the large dune plantations you will find a number of marked walking and bridle paths of varying lengths. By the Put & Take fishpond in Rindby anglers can haul trouts. The forest playground in Fanø Klitplantage appeals to both children and adults. Furthermore, it is possible to bowl in Nordby.

Worth a visit

Many artists and craftsmen inhabit the island, and you can f.x. visit a candle factory in Rindby (3 km), more galleries in Nordby (2 km) as well as amber cutters in both Nordby and Sønderho (14 km). 'Fanø Museum' has been established in a typical Fanø house in Nordby, and her you can gain an experience of how the people lived here 300 years ago. The collection 'Fanø Skibsfarts- og Dragtsamling' in Nordby exhibits a comprehensive collection of sailing ships and costumes as well as 2 intact living rooms from an old home of a ship owner. Sønderho is a small, well-preserved fishing village with beautiful, thatched houses on Fanø's most southern point. Here you will find peace and quiet (14 km). 'Hannes Hus' is a modest Sønderho home from the 18th. century, which is well-preserved and almost intact. The art and the relics of culture can be experienced in the many museums, i.a. the art museum 'Fanø Kunstmuseum' in Sønderho.
