The small, quiet and cosy holiday house area by Nørre Kettingskov is situated right by the beach, and from the area you can enjoy the view of the South Funen archipelago. Behind the town you will find a scenic nature as well as many cultural and historic sights. The old town Sønderborg offers good shopping possibilities, restaurants, sights and leisure activities, and at night you can experience the incredibly cosy atmosphere in the cafés and bars of the town.

The beaches of southern Als are generally good. They often have dunes and a sandy bottom, but the water is deep at more places. The beach of Nørre Kettingskov is a sandy beach with stone and calm water. 5 km north of Nørre Kettingskov the beach of Fynshav is available. This beach is famous for it's good facilities and has been awarded with the Blue Flag. About 12 km south of Nørre Kettingskov you will find the 5 km long, sandy beach by Skovmose, which is said to be one of the lovelies beaches on Als. The water is also very calm here, as the beach is sheltered by Funen, the island Ærø and the German coastline.


The nature on Als is very fertile and green areas surround Nørre Kettingskov. Further inland the landscape is characterized by forest, hills, valleys and fields. Along the 165 km long coastline the nature is very versatile. Inlets and coves supersede cliffs and bathing beaches. Als has some of the most lovely forest areas in Denmark. 'Nørreskoven' is the largest forest on the island and this 700 hectares large area is ideal for walks and bicycle trips. It is also possible to drive in car through the forest. You will find Northern Europe's largest collection of cromlechs in the forests 'Blommeskobbel' and 'Oleskobbel'. The area 'Dybbøl Banke' contains 10 redoubts and is laid down as a national park.


Anglers will find ideal conditions here, as it is possible to fish from the 165 km coastline, on the sea as well as in the Put & Take fishponds and streams of the area. Furthermore, deep-sea fishing trips with a genuine wooden fishing vessel are arranged in the harbours of Mommark and Sønderborg. Near Augustenborg the scenic golf course of 'Alssund Golfklub' is situated. This course is a challenge for both beginners and experienced golf players. The area contains more bicycle routes, which lead through the scenic landscape. It is also recommendable to take a walk along the beach, through the meadows or in the forests.

Worth a visit

In the small town Mommark, which is situated 5 km north of Nørre Kettingskov, you will find an idyllic and quiet harbour, which functions both as a fishing harbour and a marina. The atmosphere is quite unique here. The old cromlechs in the forests 'Blommekobbel' and 'Oleskobbel' are some of the historic sights on Als. Furthermore, Als offers no less than 3 castles as well as innumerable beautiful wind and watermills. Visit Sønderborg with the beautiful waterfront, the historic buildings, the good shopping possibilities and the castle, where you can admire collections from the Middle Ages and up till today (17 km).

Excursion spots

From the harbour of Mommark you can go on a daytrip to the cosy and evocative island Ærø. On the 34 km long island you will find a large amount of mills, castles, cromlechs and grave mounds. Experience f.x. the castle 'Augustenborg Slot' with the castle church and park, where you can join a guided tour (9 m), the watermill 'Vibæk Mølle' by the holy brook 'Vibæk', the castle 'Sønderborg Slot', which has been restored according to the Barock, and the belonging museum of the South Jutland history (17 km), the castle 'Nordborg Slot' from the year 1150 (20 km) and the historic mill 'Dybbøl Mølle' from the year 1744, which was formerly situated in a military area. Today the mill function as a museum and displays pictures and relics from the battlefield (22 km). The castle 'Gråsten Slot' and the palace garden are surrounded by scenic nature with forest and a lake. The profusely decorated castle church and the park, which is abounding in flowers, are open to the public (32 km).
