The small fishing hamlet Frydenborg is located right by the Little Belt on the scenic peninsula Stenderup - just southeast of Kolding. From the area, which is surrounded by sea, fields and forests with ancient monuments, you can enjoy the view of Funen, the island Fænø and the calf Fænø Kalv. The peaceful and unspoiled area is an ideal holiday destination for anglers, nature lovers and historically interested persons among others. It is possible to buy groceries in the neighbourhood, and 15 km east of Frydenborg you will find Kolding with sights and activities for the whole family as well as good shopping opportunities and restaurants.
As deep water and currents characterize the waters off Frydenborg, it is not recommendable to swim here. However, the beach Løverodde Strand (9 km towards north) offers a sandy beach, shallow, stagnant and child-friendly water, Blue Flag, a long bathing jetty as well as a grass area with benches, small shelters and a nature playground. By Løverodde Strand you can swim, surf, sunbathe and engage yourselves in beach activities.
The forest Sønderskov is located in the southern outskirts of Frydenborg and grows all the way out to the shore. Here you will find a bonfire area 'Favntræpladsen' and a small castle mounds 'Husvold'. Sønderskov consists of hardwood forest, beech forest, raised bog as well as calluna bog with birch and spruce. To the north of Frydenborg the forest Midtskov and Nørreskov are located. Together the make up the state forests Stenderup Skovene. These forests offer wide and disabled-friendly forest roads, walking paths, a rich birdlife and ancient historic monument like f.ex. grave mounds, castle mounds and long barrows. A large number of birds rest in the large meadow area Solkær Enge near Binderup during the autumn (9 km). You will find some of Denmark's most beautiful beech forests around Skamlingsbanken - a scenic nature area with South Jutland's highest point (113 m above sea level). From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the countryside, the Little Belt and Funen (13 km).
The tranquil and scenic area invites walks in the forests, fishing from the shore or a dinghy, surfing along the coast or diving in the deep and current-carrying water. The waters, surrounding the peninsular Stenderup, are very rich in fish, and by the spit Stenderup Hage, a few km south of Frydenborg, it is very popular to fish for crabs. Furthermore, a number of Put & Take fishponds are available in the area. Slotssøbadet in Kolding is an aquapark for both children and adults. The water complex offers a large pool with water slides, a fountain, whirlpool, sauna, Turkish bath, fitness room, solariums and a health room (15 km). The play park Legeparken in Kolding is a recreational area for all age groups. Here you can sail on the large lake, drive in moon cars or simply relax. Southeastern Jutland is rich in golf courses, and in close vicinity to Frydenborg you will find f.ex. Kolding Golf Club (19 km), Bunker Golf Danmark (19 km) and Birkemose Golfcenter (22 km).
Worth a visit
In Sønder Stenderup you can visit Ateljes - an interesting and different studio with paintings, glass art, wooden and iron figures etc. (5 km). Visit Kolding with the cosy old streets, green areas, good shopping opportunities, museums, art galleries, theatre, evocative squares with restaurants and cafés as well as a vivid music- and nightlife, the lake Slotssøen and the more than 700 years old royal castle Koldinghus (15 km). At Koldinghus you can experience collections from the 16th century and up till today, baronial halls and dungeons. The beautiful garden 'Geografisk Have' in Kolding consists of a herb and medicinal garden, a rose garden, a scent garden, a greenhouse as well as areas, inspired by China, Japan, South America, North America, Canada, Europe and Asia. At the scenically located museum Trapholt you can experience interesting exhibitions with contemporary Danish pictorial art and furniture design as well as collections with handicraft, pottery and textile (19 km).
In Egtved you can see the girl Egtvedpigen, who was discovered in 1921 - one of Denmark's best preserved bronze age finds. A small museum on the spot informs about the rare find and exhibits copies of the girl's coffin and garments (36 km). LEGOLAND is build of LEGO bricks and the more than 50 activities guarantee speed, excitement and experiences! 'The most amusing playground for the whole family' offers knights in armours, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much, much more (55 km). Givskud is a combined lion park and zoo. Here you drive around among the wild animals and get close to both hippos and lions (64 km). Fun Park Fyn in Aarup on Funen offers an aquapark as well as amusements for the whole family. When the admission ticket is purchased, all activities are at your free disposal (66 km).
