Diernæs is situated in the bay 'Diernæs Bugt' between the towns Haderslev and Aabenraa in a scenic area, close to forest and beach. Offshore of Diernæs, about 1 km out in the water, the small island Barsø is situated.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area, and Haderslev (12 km towards north) as well as Aabenraa (14 km towards south) both offer a good shopping possibilities.

The lovely bathing beach by Diernæs has the Blue Flag. The beach is very suitable for children, as the water is shallow. Here you can swim, sunbathe, play ball, sail and surf among other things.
The area, surrounding Diernæs, is characterized by lush nature with many forests and lakes.
The 700 hectares large area, which forms the forests 'Pamhule Skovene', is situated in the valley 'Haderslev Dalen' and offers more marked walking paths, i.a. along the streams and lakes of the forests.
The lake 'Slivsø', which lies along with the stream 'Hopstrup Å', is a scenic place with a rich animal life, paths, viewpoints and resting places.
By Diernæs the conditions for windsurfing, sailing and waterski are very good.
The rich vegetation on the sea floor as well as an old German submarine station make the area an attractive and interesting destination for divers as well.
Anglers can fish directly from the beach, in the stream 'Hopstrup Å', in the lake 'Slivsø', in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area or on the sea. Deep-sea fishing trips onboard a fishing vessel are arranged from both Aabenraa and Haderslev.
Golf players can try out some of the 9 golf courses of South Jutland.
The area is suitable for walks by the shore or through the fields and forests. Equally, a number of good bicycle paths are available here like i.a. 'Østersø-ruten'.
The scenic, 100 hectares large animal park 'Dyrehaven' with forest, grass areas, meadows, deer and red deer is situated close to Haderslev.
The mill 'Runde Mølle' is situated on Løjtland, where you can also see a large amount of restores houses with thatched roofs.
The island Barsø, which lies one km offshore from Diernæs, functioned as a submarine base during World War 1.
2 old bunkers from World War 2 can still be seen in the bay by Diernæs.
Haderslev Museum is an archaeological museum with an open-air section and an exhibition about Haderslev.
You will find a number of interesting castles in the area, like f.x. 'Aabenraa Slot', 'Gram Slot' and 'Gottorp Slot' (the latter in Germany).
Visit the old marked towns Haderslev and Aabenraa, which both lie less than 15 km from Diernæs.
Haderslev offers a cosy pedestrian street, many green recreational areas, like i.a. Damparken, an old part of town with gently restored houses as well as the beautiful cathedral.
Aabenraa is situated by the inlet, and here you can enjoy the harbour, the beach, the lovely pedestrian street with squares, the old part of town as well as the castle Aabenraa Slot, which is surrounded by water and trees.
Go on a daytrip to the German border, which lies only 48 km from Diernæs.
