Greater Copenhagen covers an area around the capital, where you are staying 15 km from the city centre at the most. Here you will find quiet and cosy holiday areas with good bus and train connections to Copenhagen. You can enjoy the proximity to the sea as well as the pulsating life of the city. And you can enjoy more good bathing beaches in the area.
The area Greater Copenhagen offer more lovely and child-friendly bathing beaches. Among others you can make use of a fine sandy beach with bathing jetty and small dunes with vegetation in Brøndby Strand as well as a great sandy beach with bating jetty by Ishøj Strand. A bit closer to the centre you will find the beach resort Amager Strandpark on a 2 km long artificial island with a big lagoon, sandy bottom and dunes. To the north of Copenhagen you can visit the popular beach resort Bellevue Strandbad. Try the beach Urban Beach by the Carlsberg town as well as the harbour baths Islands Brygge, Fisketorvet and Sluseholmen.
Greater Copenhagen contains many great green spaces. You can among other things enjoy the sight of the beautiful botanic gardens in the centre of Copenhagen, take a walk in the forest Brøndby Strand, in the nature area Kongelunden on Amager, which is rich in different plants and birds, as well as in the forest Dyrehaven with the recently renovated castle Erimitageslottet and a large number of deer. Around 25 km from the centre of Copenhagen you will find the lake Furesøen, Denmark's deepest lake. Here you can sail, swim, angle and walk by the lake.
The many forests, parks and green spaces invite walks and cycle rides. The area is also plentiful in golf courses, and you can try the well-kept courses of Brøndby Golfklub, Copenhagen Colf Center and Helsingør Golfklub among others. Anglers can also try their luck from the shores, in the harbours or in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area. Furthermore, the area offers an abundance of public swimming pools, bowling alleys and other sport facilities.
Greater Copenhagen offers a vibrant cultural life with countless museums, galleries, theatres and music clubs. You can shop and enjoy the pulse of the city on Strøget, Europe’s longest pedestrian street, as well as visit some of the many sights of the city. Experience for example the amusement parks Tivoli and Bakken, the great aquarium Den Blå Planet, the Copenhagen Zoo, the experience centres Planetarium and Eksperimentarium, the museum Carlsberg Glyptotek as well as the crown jewels at the castle Rosenborg Slot.
You can see the varying exhibitions at the spectacular art museum Arken in Ishøj (20 km from the centre). To the north of Great Copenhagen you can visit Karen Blixen Museet in Rungsted (27 km) or Louisiana in Humlebæk (35 km), which offers many interesting exhibitions and a great view of Oresund. The castle Kronborg Slot in Helsingør (45 km) is an impressive sight – both inside and outside. See the royal halls and the sombre casemates under the castle. Visit the amusement park Bonbon-Land in Holme Olstrup, which offers more than 70 fun rides for the whole family (app. 75 km).
