The evocative fishing village Karrebæksminde is located in the bay Karrebæksminde Bugt in the waters Smålandsfarvandet and is connected with the green and scenic island Enø a the short bascule bridge, often referred to as the grasshopper bridge. You will find a bathing beach, marinas, shops, restaurants and ice-cream stalls right around the bridge on both the Karrebæksminde side and the Enø side. The holiday area is very suitable for holiday home rental because of the good beach and the relaxed and charming atmosphere. Here you can enjoy freshly smoked fish with a view of the sea, stroll around in the 3 cosy harbours with fishing and leisure boats, visit a fishing and town museum, admire the beautiful mill, which is the landmark of Karrebæksminde, and perhaps take part in some of the many arrangements in the town.
You can shop and dine locally, or you can visit Næstved, which is located 10 km away and offers shops, restaurants and more sights.
When you walk or drive across the bridge to Enø, the sandy beach stretches out right in front of you. The lovely wide and sandy beach of Karrebæksminde/Enø is one of South Sealand''s best bathing beaches. The beach has blue flag, a fine sandy bottom and shallow child-friendly water, and invites relaxation as well as various beach activities. During the high season lifeguards keep a watchful eye on the bathing guests.
The nature, surrounding Karrebæksminde, is characterized by shore, fields, woodland and green areas. Right behind Karrebæksminde you will find the lovely plantation Karrebækstorp Skov, where you can walk along the sea and perhaps visit the apple and grape fields of the farm Vesterhavegaard.
On the island Enø nature is very unique and unspoiled. On the northern part of Enø you will find fields, woodlands and coastal stretches. The southern part of the island, Enø Overdrev, is a preserved bird sanctuary. The bird sanctuary consists of meadows, which are pastured by cattle and horses, and wetlands with an abundance of birds. From this area you can also experience seals, if you are in luck. The bay and the sea around Enø have been appointed both Ramsar and EU bird protection area.
In Karrebæksminde/Enø you can swim and engage yourselves in beach activities by the wide sandy beach, play minigolf with a sea view, hike and observe birds on Enø Overdrev, or fish for crabs, bay scrimps and flatfish along the shore. A couple of kilometres from Karrebæksminde you can sail in canoe on the stream Susåen. Golfers can test the nearby courses of e.g. Næstved Ny Golfklub (6 km) and Sydsjællands Golfklub near Mogenstrup (12 km).
More times a year you can take part in activities like harvest market, the bridge race Broløb between Karrebæksminde and Enø or the harbour festival, Karrebæksminde Havnefestival, with food, music and many activities, which takes place every summer.
The fishing and town museum, Karrebæksminde Fiskeri- og Bymuseum, is open during the summer and shows a new exhibition every year. The landmark of the museum, an old lighthouse from WWI, is situated in the garden. The landmark of Karrebæksminde is the Dutch windmill Karrebæk Mølle from 1858. The mill also functions as a seamark for sailors.
Right by the bridge you will see a large red cloth boiler from the paper factory in Næstved. The remarkable ball looks very much like a large mine.
Right behind Karrebæksminde you will find the vineyard Vesterhavegaard. From May to October you can join a guided tour on the wine and apple fields, see the production of organic wine and apple juice and visit the cosy farm shop.
You will also find a candle factory, an antique shop and a gallery in the area.
Visit ZOOPARK Sydsjælland near Næstved, where you can experience many interesting animals, among others the white Bengal tiger, lamas, kangaroos and snakes (7 km).
The commercial town Næstved offers shops, restaurants, more museums and a number of historic sights (10 km).
Experience the island Gavnø with the beautiful fairy-tale castle Gavnø Slot, which has one of Denmark''s most scenic and colourful flower gardens. On the castle area you will also find a tree top course, Gavnø Go Fly, Sommerfugleland with exotic butterflies, the challenging playground, Sørøverland, and the castle brewery, Slotsbryggeriet, where you can taste the hand brewed beer (13 km).
Take your family to the amusement park Bonbonland, which offer more than 70 rides for the whole family, like e.g. a water world, the wild swing Svend Svingarm, the roller coaster Vildsvinet, a rafting course and much more (18 km).
