Vigsø is situated in the province Thy, right by a lovely bathing beach with more bunkers, lovely nature areas with dune plantations and moors, and close to Hanstholm. Vigsø is an ideal holiday destination for anglers, nature lovers and families with children. It is possible to buy groceries in the area, and Hanstholm offers good shopping possibilities, more restaurants, leisure activities and interesting sights.
The beach of the bay 'Vigsø Bugt' is a lovely, wide and sandy beach, which is suitable for both swimming and windsurfing. The bottom is sandy and the water is very clear here. The beach is about 40 metres wide and 30 km long. The beach is suitable for children at the water's edge, but the water get deep rather quickly and big waves can occur.
In the uttermost range of dunes as well as in the water's edge you can see the remains of the bunkers, which constituted the battery 'Vigsø Batteriet' during World War 2.
Beach, undulating landscapes, salt meadows, dune plantations, hills, forests and wide spaces characterize the landscape, surrounding Vigsø.
By the village Ræhr (3 km) you will find the forest 'Skoleskoven', where the children can build caves from the branches and twigs of the trees. The forest contains the lake 'Ræhr Sø', and here it is possible to find fossils, as the lake has been established on an old sea floor. The lake is surrounded by meadows, moors and fields, and the nature is very rich in birds and animals here.
The elevated plantation 'Hesseldal Plantage' is situated behind Vigsø, and here you can enjoy the great views of the sea and the area.
'Hanstholm Naturreservat' is Denmark's largest nature reserve, and even though you cannot enter the reserve, you can walk in the surrounding plantations and enjoy the view of the area from a hill or a gazebo.
Denmark's only bird cliff 'Bulbjerg' can be experiences 11 km east of Vigsø.
The area, surrounding Vigsø, invites stays in nature. It is popular to climb on the bunkers of the beach among other things.
The small village Ræhr, 3 km from Vigsø, offers a playground and a petanque court.
You will find good fishing opportunities along the shores by Vigsø, where it is possible to catch sea trout. Furthermore, you can fish in the nearby Put & Take fishpond 'Ræhr Fiskepark' or go deep-sea fishing onboard a fishing vessel on the reef 'Det Gule Rev', which lies a 2 hours sail from Hanstholm.
A bowling alley and a go-cart track are available in Hanstholm.
If you feel like trying to windsurf, you will find the best conditions by Klitmøller, which is an international and well-known windsurfing area (22 km).
The golf course of 'Nordvestjysk Golfklub' by Klitmøller offers golf players one of Denmark's most challenging and beautiful courses (24 km).
Visit the former fishing hamlet Hanstholm, which today is a modern commercial town. It has an active fishing harbour (one of the largest in the country), a large ferry port with services to Norway, the Shetland Isles and the Faroe islands, good shopping possibilities in the centre 'Hanstholm Centret' as well as more restaurants and cultural offers (9 km).
Visit the lighthouse of Hanstholm from 1843 and enjoy the scenic view from the top. A wing by the lighthouse contains a museum about coastal fishing and the construction of the harbour.
A part of 'Museumscenter Hanstholm' is the bunker 'Musumsbunkeren' - Northern Europe's largest fortress with bunkers. In the museum area you can experience exhibitions, canons, uniforms, weapons etc.
Bulbjerg is a 47 metres high limestone cliff, inhabited by sea birds, and from here you have an outstanding view of the bay 'Jammerbugten'. In a bunker on the spot you can experience a small exhibition about the area (11 km).
The Limfjord island Mors is an inspiring place for artists, and everywhere on Mors you will find galleries, exhibitions, collections and museums (33 km). In Nordsoakvariet in Vorupor you can experience fish and marine animals, which have been caught by the fishermen of Vorupor (35 km). Vorupor Museum has been established in the old shipbuilding yard of the town. Here you can see an exhibition about the history of Vorupor and the coastal population. In Jesperhus you can experience impressive flower parks, a jungle zoo with beautiful birds and tropical animals, a pirate land and a water world as well as entertainment for the whole family (52 km). You can also to on a day trip to the Faarup Sommerland by the seaside town Blokhus. This beautiful amusement park offers an abundance of experiences for people of all ages (84 km).
