The unique nature, the fresh sea air and the lovely sandy beach make Tornby Strand an attractive holiday area. The holiday homes of the area are surrounded by an exceptional, slightly hilly moor and dune area with scattered plantations, which invites picnics and walks. Behind Tornby Strand you will find the small town Tornby, which offers the essential groceries. If you wish to choose from a larger selection, you can go to Hirtshals, which contains shops, restaurants, an active harbour and more sights (4 km). Tornby Strand is an ideal holiday resort if you wish to stay by the water in peaceful surroundings, but still be close to leisure activities, sights and towns.
Tornby Strand is a lovely sandy beach with pure bathing water and Blue Flag. Dunes with lyme grass shelter the beach, and it is always possible to find a sheltered spot in the hollows of the dunes. The beach is child-friendly, but holes in the sandy bottom as well as current can occur. This good and peaceful beach also attracts many of the locals. You can have the beach more or less to yourselves if you move just a little bit away from the way down to the beach. Motoring is allowed on the beach. The beach invites walks - year round.
Right behind the high dunes the landscape is characterized by hilly nature/dune areas with heather, rose hips and a bit of wood. From here you can enjoy the view to the dune plantation Tornby Klitplantage. This is an elevated North Sea plantation, which contains a rich animal life as well as a characteristic and fertile vegetation with e.g. wild roses as well as a number of fungus and berries. The ''mountain'' Tornby Bjerg lies 88 metres above the sea level in a scenic area. On one side you can see the town Hjorring and on the other, the town Hirtshals and the North Sea are visible. The forest Lilleheden Klitplantage is located close to Hirtshals, and here you can experience a varying birdlife. Furthermore, the landscape offer fragrant coniferous trees, beech trees, fruit bushes, fungus, hills, fields and the stream Kjul A. Formerly, the water of this stream had the reputation of possessing a healing effect.
Year round, the beach as well as the dune plantation Tornby Klitplantage invites walks along the marked paths. The wind provides good conditions for windsurfing here. Anglers can fish directly from the shore, in the nearby Put & Take fishponds, in the harbour of Hirtshals and by the lighthouse in Hirtshals. If you wish to go deep-sea fishing, you can go out with a fishing vessel from Hirtshals to different wrecks or reefs - e.g. Det Gule Rev. Hirtshals Golfklub near Kjul offers an 18-hole, slightly undulating golf course as well as a 9-hole Pay & Play course, which is open to everyone (10 km). In Hirtshals Bowling Center you can bowl, play air hockey, billiards etc. (4 km). Fun-Park in Hirtshals is a large nature area with activities for children, like f.x. Indian camp, bouncing cushions etc. as well as a petting zoo with more animal species.
The old school Tornby Gl. Skole has been converted into a pottery, and here you can experience pottery for everyday use and art, created out of blue clay from the small mountain Tornby Bjerg. The commercial town Hirtshals offers a large harbour, shops, restaurants and sights, like e.g. the aquarium Nordsomuseet with Europe''s largest saltwater aquarium: Ocenariet, which holds than 4.5 million litres. Here you can experience 60 different fish species from the North Sea, and you can even touch some of them. In Hirtshals you can also visit Bunkermuseet Hirtshals 10. Batteri - a complete bunker installation from World War II with a museum. 144 steps lead you to the top of the lighthouse Hirtshals Fyr and from a height of 35 m you can enjoy the magnificent view of the sea, the shore and the countryside (4 km).
Visit the idyllic and evocative fishing hamlet and holiday resort Lønstrup, which is famous for its many galleries and craftsmen (21 km). In Tuen near Tversted you can visit the eagle sanctuary Ornereservatet. Come close to some of the world''s greatest eagle species and watch them being fed in the air (26 km). Rubjerg Knude is a 90-metres high hill island, created by the inland ice during the last ice age. The lighthouse Rubjerg Knude Fyr is partly buried in sand. It was build in 1900 and taken out of service in 1968 because of the sand drift. Enjoy the magnificent view of the sea and the landscape from here (26 km). In the amusement park Faarup you can try out more than 50 interesting entertainments for the whole family, including Denmark''s largest aquapark and Denmark''s longest switchback Falken (41 km).
