When you spend your holiday in the fishing village Thorup Strand on the west coast of North Jutland, you can enjoy the beach, the scenic surroundings and the activities on the beach. The fishing hamlet Thorup Strand is located in the southern part of the bay Jammerbugten. There is no fishing harbour here, so instead the fishing vessels are pulled up on the beach after each fishing trip. Therefore, Thorup Strand is Denmark's largest landing place with just below 20 vessels. You can follow the activities on the beach and perhaps buy fresh fish for your dinner.
Thorup Strand is surrounded by a scenic plantation area, and in close vicinity to the holiday destination, you will find the inlet Lund Fjord - a part of the bird sanctuary Vejlerne, as well as Bulbjerg - Denmark's only bird cliff.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area, and in Fjerritslev (12 km) you will find good shopping opportunities, restaurants and more sights.
Thorup Strand is a quiet and cosy holiday area for those, who wish to spend their vacation in relaxing and very scenic surroundings.
The lovely bathing beach by Thorup is facing north and has coarse sand with a few stones. The beach is sheltered by dunes, which is overgrown with lyme grass. The beach invites swimming, sunbathing and beach activities. Furthermore, you can follow the interesting activities when the fishing boats come ashore and sometimes also buy fresh fish directly from the boats.
Thorup Strand is surrounded by the North Sea and scenic plantations with a rich animal life. The plantations are inhabited by red deer and roe deer among others.
6 km behind the shore you will find the inlet Lund Fjord - a part of the nature reserve Vejlerne, and here you can experience forests of reeds, salt meadows and a rich birdlife.
The bird cliff Bulbjerg is a 47-metres high limestone cliff, which faces the Skagerrak. The cliff is a large nature attraction, which overlooks the level coastal landscape. Uttermost on the cliff you can see a bunker from World War II with a small exhibition about the German installations and about the nature and culture of the place (8 km).
The dune plantation Svinkløv Plantage near Slettestrand contains many good walking paths. You can follow an old German concrete road, which leads through the forest and out to the spot Sømærket. Here you stand high above the sea and are able to enjoy a magnificent view of the North Sea and the area (16 km).
The scenic plantation area invites walks, riding trips, picnics etc. in the open.
Golf players can test the course of Jammerbugtens Golfklub near Fjerritslev, where the 18-hole course is naturally laid out (12 km).
Anglers can fish directly from the shore, in the Put & Take fishponds of the area as well as on the sea. Deep-sea fishing trips are arranged from the harbour of Hanstholm, A fishing vessel takes you out to the reef Det Gule Rev, which lies about 2 hours from Hanstholm (44 km).
If the bathing weather fails you, or if you merely wish to pamper yourselves a bit, you ought to visit the aquapark Vigsø Badeland, which contains swimming pool, water slide, jacuzzi, heated children's pool, baby pool, sauna, solarium and fitness room (38 km).
Right behind the dunes of the beach you can visit the coast exhibition Kystudstillingen, which has been established in a small museum house.
In Klim you can experience one of Denmark's two preserved limekilns. The limekiln Klim Kalkovn is a culture-historical sight with an exhibition about the oven and the work in the limestone quarry (4 km).
The brewery museum 'Fjerritslev Bryggeri- og Egnsmuseum' is Northern Europe¿s best-preserved rural brewery. The brewery appears like in the old days with 100-years old coppers, fermenting tubs and beer barrels. The brewer farm Bryggergården, which has been converted to a museum, also contains a malt house and a bottling hall (12 km). In Fjerritslev you can also visit Han Herred Naturcenter and learn more about the nature and animal life of the area.
In general the area is rich in artist craftsmen, and pottery, stoneware, paintings, raku and glass art among other things are exhibited in the workshops and galleries of the artists.
The fortification Aggersborg near Aggersund contains traces of 48 long houses. By the stronghold you can see an exhibition about the construction of the castle (23 km).
Kokkedal Slot near Brovst is an impressive castle with three wings in 2 stories with a very interesting history (28 km).
Visit Museumscenter Hanstholm with the museum bunker - Northern Europe's largest fortress with a bunker. At the museum area you can experience exhibitions, canons, uniforms, weapons etc. (44 km).
In the amusement park Fårup Sommerland & Aquapark you can try out more than 50 interesting entertainments for the whole family, including Denmark's largest aquapark and Denmark's longest switchback Falken en (59 km).
Jesperhus Blomsterpark is Scandinavia's larges flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with beautiful tropical birds, pirate and play land and an aquapark (75 km).
