Stenbjerg is an old quiet fishing hamlet, which is scenically surrounded by the North Sea and magnificent plantation areas.

Stenbjerg is the peaceful alternative to the more vivid Vorupør. The cosy town is sheltered from the wind by the dunes behind the preserved landing place 'Stenbjerg landingsplads', from which fishing was formerly carried out. The atmosphere of the landing place with the small white tool sheds, the life saving station, the capstan house and the old fishing houses is idyllic and spirited. Here it is possible to buy fresh fish from the local fishermen. The landmark of Stenbjerg is the navigation mark 'Sømærket', which is highly situated on a dune.
It is possible to buy groceries in Stenbjerg, and you can dine on the inn of the town. The nearest lager town is Thisted, which is situated 27 km towards northeast.
In Stenbjerg you will find peace, charm, fresh sea air and green recreational surroundings. The area offers good opportunities for swimming, fishing and hiking in the unique nature. Stenbjerg is and ideal holiday destination for artists and nature lovers.
The 100-metres wide and sandy beach of Stenbjerg has a few stones and Blue Flag. The bottom is sandy and the bathing water is mainly clear. However, the water gets deep rather quickly and at times the current can be strong.
Lyme grass dunes right behind the small white fishing houses shelter the beach.
Because of the wind, windsurfers will find good opportunities by the beach of Stenbjerg.
On one side Stenbjerg is bounded by the North Sea and the characteristic lyme grass dunes, and on the other side you will find the green plantation areas. Here you can enjoy the fragrance of sea, earth and pines at the same time.
The large state forests of the hinterland form the largest coherent forest areas in Denmark. The forests offer lakes, streams, gentle beech forest and wind-swept pines. The landscape is very varying and vast, and the sky is immensely high, clear and blue.
The opportunities for coastal fishing are good in Stenbjerg. Furthermore, you can fish in the lakes, streams and Put & Take fishponds of the hinterland. If you wish to go deep-sea fishing, you can go out with a fishing vessel from Hanstholm (29 km).
The lovely nature with f.x. Stenbjerg Plantage contains a number of marked paths, an invites picnic and hikes. Vestkyststien - an 80 km long walking and bicycle path between Bulbjerg and Agger - leads right past Stenbjerg.
If you feel like trying to windsurf, you can make use of the good winds and currents of the area. F.x. is Klitmøller an international windsurfing area (17 km).
Golf players can test the cosy golf course in the plantation Nystrup Plantage (17 km). or one of Denmark's most challenging courses with Nordvestjysk Golfklub in Thisted (27 km).
The former life saving station of Stenbjerg is converted into a small museum, which informs about the history and function of the life saving station. In one of the nearby fishing houses you can see a small collection regarding the history of the fishing hamlet.
In Vorupør the fishing vessels are still drawn up on the landing place every day after use - a very old and well-preserved tradition. From the 350 metres long breakwater you can follow the activities (5 km).
In the aquarium Nordsøakvariet in Vorupør you can experience fish and marine animal, caught by the fishermen of Vorupør. Vorupør Museum has been established in the former boat-building yard. The museum illustrates the historic background of Vorupør and the special lifestyle of the coastal population.
The 'sawmill' museum 'Svankjær lille Savværk' exhibits a small collection of Danish collages, which have been carved out of wood. See the result of a time-consuming and accurately executed piece of work (10 km).
Thisted offers shops, restaurants, galleries, potteries, the brewhouse Thisted Bryghus and Thisted Museum, where you among other things can see a memorial room for the author J. P. Jacobsen as well as exhibitions about the peasant culture of Thy and the history of Thisted (27 km). Visit Museumscenter Hanstholm with Museumsbunkeren - Northern Europe''s largest fortress with bunkers. At the museum area you can also experience exhibitions, cannons, uniforms, weapons etc. (29 km). Limfjordscentret in Doverodde is a 150- years-old and very well-preserved merchant''s house, which played an important role in the old days (33 km). Another kind of attraction is Jesperhus, which offers colourful flowers, tropical birds, a jungle zoo and a play centre for children (38 km). At the open-air museum Hjerl Hede you can follow life in the charming old village with houses, farms, workshops, a church, sawmill and much more. Experience different activities and live demonstrations here year round (76 km).
