Area

In a magnificent and preserved dune landscape, directly by the North Sea, you will find the attractive holiday area Rødhus. The former village of Rødhus was ravaged by sand drift, but the area is now resurrected as a lovely nature area with holiday homes and a few farms. The holiday homes of the area are build in such a way that they harmonize with the surroundings. The lots are large and between the houses the large moor stretches with the original and varying vegetation have been preserved. The area is ideal for nature lovers, who wish to spend their holiday in tranquil surroundings near beach and beautiful nature, but at the same time wish to be close to the many leisure activities, sights and amusements that north-western Jutland has to offer.

Beach

The beach of Rødhus is a lovely, wide and sandy beach, which has been awarded with the Blue Flag. Dunes with lyme grass shelter the beach. Motoring is allowed on the beach. Because of the wind and the waves, the windsurfing opportunities are good by Rødhus. The scenic sunset over the North Sea can be enjoyed from the beach or the dunes. The beach is fascinating at all seasons and no matter the weather it invites walks.

Nature

The area is characterized by magnificent and hilly dune/moor landscapes with scattered pinewood. In the dune plantation Rødhus Klitplantage you can follow a marked path through the beautiful and peaceful landscape. Close to Rødhus you can visit the former marsh area, which is known as Sandmosen (the sand bog) today. Here you can experience a rich birdlife and during the high season peat digging is carried out in Sandmosen.

Activities

The 5.5 km long marked walking path 'Sporet' (the trail) begins in Rødhus. Along the route through the dune plantation Rødhus Klitplantage you will have a good impression of the scenic area. The beach of Rødhus is ideal for activities like swimming, sunbathing, surfing and walks. It is possible to rent riding horses around the area. If you wish to pamper yourselves, you can visit the lovely aquapark of the holiday centre Rødhus Klit. Here you will find a pool, a jacuzzi, a water slide, tropical plants as well as a wellness centre, which offers vitalizing treatments. A number of golf courses are available in the area, and among others you can test the scenic course of Blokhus Klit Golf Center (6 km). You can fish directly from the shores of the bay Jammerbugten as well as in the Put & Take fishponds of the area.

Worth a visit

The charming church of Rødhus is called 'the church by the end of the world', and it is the smallest one in the district. The church is quite special and is merely illuminated by means of candles. Galleri Rødhusgården exhibits and sells glass art, pottery, paintings, sculptures and ornaments of a high quality. The garden of Hune 'Haven i Hune' is a 6,500 square metres beautiful, colourful and inspiring harden with f.x. sale of plants and paintings as well as a café (8 km). With the candle factory `Blokhus Lys¿ in Hune you can make your own candles in pleasant surroundings. The cosy and popular holiday resort Blokhus offers shops, restaurants, pubs, ice cream stalls, a bowling centre, entertainment and atmosphere (9 km).

Excursion spots

In the amusement park Fårup Sommerland & Aquapark you can try out more than 50 entertainments, including Denmark's largest aquapark and Denmark's longest switchback Falken (23 km). The brewery museum 'Fjerritslev Bryggeri- og Egnsmuseum' is Northern Europe¿s best-preserved rural brewery. The brewery appears like in the old days with 100-years old coppers, fermenting tubs and beer barrels. The brewer farm Bryggergården, which has been converted to a museum, also contains a malt house and a bottling hall (25 km). Aalborg is northern Jutland's 'capital' and here you will find museums, cultural and amusing sights, pedestrian streets, a charming old town centre and the entertainment street Jomfru Ane Gade (36 km). Aalborg Zoo is a lovely, child-friendly and green garden in scenic surroundings, and here you can come close to 800 interesting and threatened species from the whole world.
