Lild Strand is located by the bay Jammerbugten, between Hanstholm and Fjerritslev, and a few km from the bird cliff Bulbjerg. Lild Strand is one of the few places along the shore, where the fishing trade is still carried out with fishing vessels and boats, which sail out from the beach. Sometimes it is possible to buy fresh fish directly from the boats. The old storage houses by the water have been converted into living quarters and a church.
A great effort has been done in order to place the holiday homes appropriately in the area, and today their location and appearance match the surroundings. Lild Strand is an ideal holiday destination for persons, who are looking for tranquillity, comfort, unspoiled nature, good beach, a rich bird and animal life as well as plenty of fresh air. In Lild Strand you will find an inviting smokehouse with delicious specialities.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area. Fjerritslev (22 km) and Hanstholm (37 km) offer more shops and restaurants.
A range of dunes shelters the beach of Lild, which is about 50 metres wide and 30 km long. The beach is sandy with a few stones, and the bathing water is clear and shallow by the waters edge. However, the water gets deep rather quickly and the current can be strong at times.
At the beach of Lild you can swim, sunbathe, play ball, surf, fish or follow the activities when the fishing boats come ashore.
Just north of Lild Strand you will find 2 bunkers, which can be climbed on.
Lild Strand is surrounded by a large, open and preserved landscape with dunes, moor, forest and lakes.
The dune plantation Lild Klitplantage stretches from the shore behind the dunes, and it is characterized by heather, heather moor, coniferous trees, leaf-bearing trees, small lakes with forest of reeds as well as idyllic walking paths.
Vejlerne, Northern Europe's largest bird sanctuary, is equally located behind the beach of Lild, and here you can observe the bird life from the gazeboes in the area.
Bulbjerg is Denmark's only bird cliff, and the marine bird, the sandpiper, breeds on the steep sides of the cliff. From the cliff you can enjoy the magnificent view of the sea and the area (6 km).
Anglers can fish directly from the shore or in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area. Furthermore, it is possible to go deep-sea fishing on the reef Det Gule Rev (2 hours from Hanstholm) with a fishing vessel.
The dune plantation Lild Klitplantage contains no less than 7 marked walking routes in the varying nature. It is also allowed to drive on bicycle along the unpaved roads of the plantation.
If you wish to play golf, you can test the courses of Jammerbugtens Golfklub near Fjerritslev, where the 18-hole course is naturally landscaped (22 km), or Nordvestjysk Golfklub near Klitmøller, which offers one of the country¿s most challenging and scenically situated courses (47 km).
If the bathing weather lets you down, you can visit the tropical aquapark Vigsø Tropisk Badeland with swimming pools, water slide, jacuzzi, heated children's pool, sauna, solarium and a fitness room (31 km).
The church of Lild Strand has been established in a former life saving station from 1886, which was converted into a church in 1950.
Bulbjerg is a 47-metres high limestone cliff, which faces the Skagerrak. The cliff is a large natural sight, which overlooks the level coastal landscape. The only Danish sea bird, the sandpiper, breeds here. Uttermost on the cliff you can see a bunker from World War II with a small exhibition about the German installations and about the nature and culture of the area (6 km).
The brewery museum 'Fjerritslev Bryggeri- og Egnsmuseum' is Northern Europe's best-preserved rural brewery. The brewery appears like in the old days with 100-years old coppers, fermenting tubs and beer barrels. The brewer farm Bryggergården, which has been converted to a museum, also contains a malt house and a bottling hall (22 km). In Fjerritslev you can also visit Han Herred Naturcenter and learn more about the nature and animal life of the area.
The fortification Aggersborg near Aggersund contains traces of 48 long houses. By the stronghold you can see an exhibition about the construction of the castle (34 km).
Visit Museumscenter Hanstholm - Northern Europe's largest fortress with a bunker. On the museum area you can experience exhibitions, canons, uniforms, weapons etc. (37 km).
In the aquarium Nordsøakvariet in Vorupør you can see fish and marine animals, caught by the fishermen of Vorupør (54 km).
Vorupør Museum is established in the old boatyard, where ships for the fishermen of the coast were build, and it displays the historic background of Vorupør and the special lifestyle of the coastal population.
Jesperhus Blomsterpark is Scandinavia's larges flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo, beautiful tropical birds, pirates, play land and aquapark (66 km).
