If you are on holiday in Skagen, you can experience the fascinating nature between the North Sea and Kattegat, and on Grenen - the tip of Denmark - you can place each of your feet in two different oceans.
Skagen, Denmark’s northernmost town with its typical yellow houses and known for its world famous Skagen Painters, is only 14 km from Hulsig.
In Skagen you will find a number of exciting shops, first-class restaurants with i.a. fish specialities and excellent shopping possibilities, and only 200 meters from your holiday home you can buy groceries.
If you enjoy bathing, there are many possibilities, too. Less than 2 km from your holiday home you will find a lovely Kattegat beach, and after 5 km drive you will be by the North Sea.
Enjoy the unique nature in your holiday area, and make also an outing to one of the many attractions in North Jutland, e.g. the amusement park Fårup Sommerland by the small town Saltum - an event for the entire family (79 km).
Between Hulsig and Bunken by Kattegat you will find a lovely beach with fine sand, a few stones and shells. The beach is very suitable for children because of its pure water and small waves and has been awarded with the Blue Flag. Furthermore, it is traffic-free and has parking lots. Here you have fine opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, surfing, walking and fishing.
If you wish to bathe in the North Sea, you can go to Kandestederne (5 km). Here the landscape is harsher, and the wide beach and high dunes invite to long walks, during which you can enjoy the view over the North Sea and the open plains.
The beach, where nude bathing is quite common, is very suitable for surfing. Here you will find parking lots, but it is also allowed to drive on the beach.
Your holiday area between the North Sea and Kattegat and only 16 km from Grenen, Denmark’s northernmost point, is characterised by a very special nature.
Grenen, the tip of the split Skagen Odde, is north of Skagen (14 km) and is made of the sand, which the ocean transports along the west coast up to Grenen. Here the two oceans meet: The North Sea and Kattegat.
The beautiful dune plantation, Bunken Klitplantage (7 km), is characterized by moor with dunes and plantation with Sitka spruce, Scotch pine and mountain pine. The plantation is located right next to the impressive and giant drifting dune Råbjerg Mile. The sand hill moves several metres towards northeast each year because of the sand drift.
Råbjerg Mile, Denmark’s largest drifting dune, is app. 40 m high and creates a miniature desert. The sand drift by the dune has exposed Råbjerg Stenene - a stone plain, which has emerged because the wind moves the fine sand of Råbjerg Mile and leaves the larger stones behind.
Only 5 km from Hulsig, golfers can make use of a challenging, 18-hole course with many firs, which belongs to the golf club Hvide Klit. Here you will find a driving range, a putting green, an exercise bunker and a Par-course with 6 holes.
The area is suitable for fishing, swimming, surfing, playing tennis and minigolf, walking, bicycling and horseback riding. A beautiful bicycle path leads directly all the way up to Skagen. From more harbours in the area you can join a sail and see everything from the water.
Farm Fun near Ålbæk is an animal park with a play land. Spend a lovely day with your children and come close to the animals of the park, e.g. pigs, cows, sheep, kangaroos, emus, ponies, razorbacks, rabbits, goats, guinea pigs, peacocks and lamas, or try out the fun moon cars, the swings and the bouncing cushion (10 km).
Visit the interesting eagle sanctuary Ørnereservatet near the small town Tversted. Here you can get close to some of the world’s largest eagle species and watch them being fed in the air (13 km). The church 'Den Tilsandede Kirke' is located south of Skagen (14 km). The immense sand drift is the cause of the burial of the church (14 km). If you use the church as your starting point, you can go for a lovely walk along the marked paths.
In Skagen, the northernmost town in Denmark, you can experience the beautiful town environments with the idyllic yellow houses with red roofs, enjoy the atmosphere in the vivid fishing harbour and the marina, see what inspired the famous Skagen painters. in Skagen you will find a number of museums, craftsmen, shops and restaurants. Visit e.g. Skagens Museum with art works of the famous Skagen Painters, Skagens Bamsemuseum (teddybear museum) and 'Skagen Odde Naturcenter'.
Bangsbo Fort in Frederikshavn (28 km) is fortifications from the World War II.
The fortifications consist of approx. 70 bunkers and concrete installations - among others Bangsbo Fort Bunkermuseum. The museum has been established in the former control bunker Regelbau M 152.
Nearby is Bangsbo Botaniske Have with i.a. interesting herb garden, park in English style, romantic rose garden and the stone garden Boolsens Stenhave.
At the aquarium Nordsømuseet in Hirtshals (37 km) you can experience sharks and different fish species - you can even touch some of them - and you can visit exhibitions on fish and fishing as well.
In the amusement park Fårup Sommerland you will find more than 50 interesting entertainments for the whole family. When the entry has been paid for, you can try out all amusements in the park (79 km).
A visit to the medieval city Aalborg can also be recommended. Here you can visit i.a. the Aalborg Zoo with 1,300 exciting animals from all over the world (93 km).
