In 2005 an artificial, 250 m long and sandy bathing beach was established in connection with the marina of Egense. Behind the beach small dunes characterize the landscape and breakwaters bound each end of the beach. The lovely and child-friendly beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag. Towards north you will find the beaches Hou Strand (12 km) and Bisnap Strand (7 km). Like Egense Strand both beaches have fine sand, a sandy bottom, shallow water and Blue Flag. Towards the south the beach of Øster Hurup is situated (12 km). The long, white beach has low dunes and Blue Flag. The beach is very suitable for children as the waves are small and the water shallow. The beach is a popular place for bathing, sunbathing, windsurfing and other beach activities.
The landscape, surrounding Egense, is scenic and varying. Mulbjerge is a preserved and rather distinctive moraine hillock of 144 hectares near Dokkedal. From here you have a fantastic view of the sea towards the east and the elongated plain landscape towards the west (7 km). 'Kongerslev Hede' is a preserved moor landscape, which also contains some old bronze age mounds. From these mounds you have an amazing view of the area. By the shallow wetlands between Egense and Hals you will find a spectacular bird life. Lille Vildmose is the largest marsh area in Denmark and contains lakes, farm areas and the forests 'Høstemark Skov' and 'Toft Skov'. Further inland you can experience the second largest forest area in Denmark. 'Rold Skov' has an undulating terrain, many forest lakes, springs, varying forest, a rich animal life and a number of walking paths. The forest is definitely worth a visit.
The area around Egense is a paradise for the angler as it is possible to fish in the inlet, on the sea as well as in the streams and Put & Take fishponds of the area. Golf players can try out the courses by Hals Golfklub, which is a seaside course, or by Rold Skov Golfklub, which is idyllically situated in the forest. The area is level and therefore comfortable for bicyclists. Lovely nature experiences await you along the marked bicycle routes, which lead you through the scenic landscapes of eastern Himmerland. You will also find more nature paths and walking routes in the area, i.a. in 'Mulbjergene' and in Dokkedal. You can also drive in go-carts on the track in Mou (6 km).
A short ferry trip brings you from Egense to Hals, which is a cosy holiday town with a vivid and harbour atmosphere. Here you will find more cultural sights, good shopping possibilities and more restaurants.
Aalborg is the 'capital' of northern Jutland. Here you will find art, culture, Denmark's oldest convent, pedestrian streets, the charming old town centre, the amusement street 'Jomfru Ane Gade' and various restaurants (27 km). The large forest 'Rold Skov' offers an undulating terrain, forest lakes, springs, varying forest, a rich animal life and many walking routes. By the salt centre 'Danmarks Saltcenter' in Mariager you can experience the magic of the salt. The salt centre is only tourist attraction in Scandinavia, where the raw material salt is the main subject (48 km).
