The small and tranquil fishing hamlet Asaa is situated by the shore of the Kattegat, right between the holiday areas Hals and Sæby. By means of a 450 metres long dam, you will reach the cosy harbour of the town with red fishing houses, dinghies, fishing boats and pleasure cruisers as well as the bathing beach, which is located on the south side of the harbour. Asaa offers handicraft, a small fishing museum in one of the fishing houses, a racecourse, a restaurant and a shop with groceries. Behind the shore and Asaa you will find the commercial town Dronninglund with shops, restaurants and the beautiful castle Dronninglund Slot.
Holiday home rental is popular in this part of Denmark because of the shallow bathing water, the cosy seaside town, the child-friendly and cultural attractions of the area as well as the peaceful and scenic nature.
Right beside the evocative harbour you can make use of the beach of Asaa, which is a really good bathing beach with blue flag, a beach volley net, dunes, fine sand and child-friendly water. A wooden path leads you across the beach, towards the water''s edge, and provides easy access for pushchairs, wheel chairs and the like.
The holiday area Asaa is surrounded by peaceful and idyllic nature with shores, streams, forests and fields. The forest Dronninglund Storskov offers scenic and varying nature, walking and bicycle paths, viewpoints, lakes, long barrows and bunkers from WW II (8 km). To the north of Asaa you will find the game reserve and bird sancturary Voerså-Stensnæs Vildtreservat. It consists of beach meadows, marsh and farmland. On the banks off the shore you can see an abundance of breeding birds. Behind the area the meadows are designated as wildlife refuge (9 km).
Between Albæk and Voerså you will find the unique and hilly moraine landscape Holtbjerg. From this nature area, which e.g. offers seven Bronze Age barrows, you can enjoy a scenic view of the landscape, the small villages of the area and the Kattegat (10 km).
Between Sæby and Lyngså you can take a walk in Professorens Plantage - a heath with dunes and pine trees as well as a very rich plant and animal life (16 km).
When you spend your holiday in Asaa, by the coast of north-east Jutland, you can swim in the child-friendly water, take a walk in the forest, cycle along the shore or on the mountain bike trail in the forest Dronninglund Storskov and watch the birds and game in the reserve. Furthermore, you can sail in canoe on the idyllic stream Voer Å from the town Voerså and enjoy nature at your leisure. Anglers can throw in th line from the shore, in the streams of the area, like e.g. Gerå and Voer Å, as well as in the nearby Put and Take fishponds.
Golfers can test the courses at Dronninglund Golfklub, Hals Golf Klub and Sæby Golfklub.
Perhaps you are able to watch a horse race at the racecourse Asaa Væddeløbsbane during your holiday.
In the summer you can visit a small fishing museum, which has been established in one of the red fishing houses by the harbour of Asaa. Here you can also see exhibitions with handicraft.
Experience the art centre Dronninglund Kunstcenter in a beautiful building in scenic surroundings. Here you can see varying contemporary art exhibitions. Close to the art centre, the impressive castle Dronninglund Slot is situated, and here you can dine at the restaurant year round or take part in some of the different arrangements (7 km).
Visit the castle Voergård Slot near Flauenskjold as well. This is one of Denmark''s most beautiful renaissance buildings. Here you can experience a scenic park and impressive moats. Inside the castle offers Denmark''s largest private art collection with silver, Ming vases, antiquities, paintings, porcelain and much more. Maybe you are lucky enough to visit Asaa when Voergård Slot arranges mediaeval days or Christmas market (12 km).
Visit LaVendelbo, Denmark''s only lavender farm, where you can admire and smell the colourful fields as well as buy products, which are made from lavender (14 km behind the shore).
In the holiday town Hals you can enjoy the cosy atmosphere, swim by the lovely beach and experience the fortifications Hals Skanse with a museum, which tells the story of the redoubt (19 km).
Visit the market town Sæby, which offers a charming centre with half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, an idyllic watermill as well as an evocative marina and a beautiful child-friendly bathing beach (26 km).
The commercial town Frederikshavn offers shops, restaurants, cafés, an art museum, a palm beach and the beautiful nature area Bangsbo with a deer park, botanical gardens and a museum (39 km). From Frederikshavn you can also go on a daytrip to the scenic and cosy island Læsø in the Kattegat.
