If you wish to spend your holiday in a peaceful and green area with good angling opportunities, Vester Assels is an ideal spot. Here you have water in more directions, open green landscapes and shores, which invite angling. Vester Assels is a good base for an active holiday, as you can angle, play golf, swim, surf and drive on bicycle near your holiday home, and at the same time you ar close to sights for the whole family.
You can buy groceries in the area, and if you prefer a larger range of shops and restaurants, the largest town of the island, Nykøbing Mors, is located just 20 km from Vester Assels.
You can swim by the shores of Vester Assels, or you can go to Sillerslev Strand, the best beach on Mors, which is located 7 km towards east. The water is shallow and clean and therefore very child-friendly. You can also play beach volley here and use a wooden pier as well as tables and benches. Furthermore, this place offers good surfing opportunities.
The landscape, surrounding Vester Assels, is flat, green and surrounded by shore and water in more directions. In spite of the flat landscape, you can enjoy the view of the Limfjord from more locations in the area.
Many birds live in the shallow water near Vester Assels.
Close to Jesperhus you can visit the scenic Legind Bjerge Plantage; a varying forest with valleys, lakes and hig hold trees from the north-western part of USA (13 km).
The Limfjord island Mors offers many beautiful stretches of coast. Here you will find both high cliffs and salt meadows with a rich bird life.
Mors and the neighbouring island Fur are the only places in the world, where you can find moler in the subsoil.
The southern part of Mors is a good fishing ground. By Vester Assels you will find both shallow areas with eelgrass and banks with clams as well as areas with deeper water. This place is especially suitable for fly-fishers. You can catch sea trout during spring and autumn and garfish in the summer months. Furthermore, you will find more Put & Take fishponds in the area, among others Morsø Fiskepark near Nykøbing.
You can surf from the beach of Sillerslev, 7 km towards east.
Because of its size Mors is suitable for bicycle rides on the slightly trafficked roads. You can for example follow the marked sunshine route around the island (120 km all together).
Golfers can visit Morsø Golfklub near Nykøbing and try the new golf facilities ’Limfjordens perle’ (the pearl of the Limfjord) with 27 holes; an 18 hole course and a 9 hole Pay and Play course. The scenic grounds are located right down to the Limfjord and offers challenges for everyone.
The castle Højriis Slot on the southern part of Mors is one of the oldest manor houses in Denmark with beautiful crenellated gables and a tower. You can visit the interesting castle and take part in the solution of a murder mystery… Or take a walk in the scenic forest surroundings, right by the Limfjord (13 km).
Jesperhus is a giant and colourful flower park with a jungle zoo, pirate world, play land and a water world. Here you will find activities and arrangements for the whole family (15 km).
Everywhere on Mors you can visit the workshops and galleries of the local artisans.
Visit the market town Nykøbing Mors with narrow streets in the cosy harbour quarter, where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere (19 km).
The monastery Dueholm Kloster in Nykøbing Mors was built by monks in the 14th century. Today the historic buildings functions as exhibition halls, and here you can see interesting collections with e.g. weapons, toys and handicraft.
At Støberimuseet in Nykøbing Mors you will have an authentic experience in the old iron foundry Morsø. In the old facilities you will learn about the history of the foundry and see furnaces, fireplaces and casting moulds from former times.
The agricultural museum Landbrugsmuseet Skarregaard is an old family farm, and here you can experience authentic living rooms, furniture and working tools. The farm is still in operation and inhabits sheep, chickens, geese and rabbits (35 km).
At the Molermuseet in Hesselbjerg you can see 55 mio. years old fossils, which have been dug out from the moler (36 km).
