The market town Nykøbing is the 'capital' of Mors. Experience the small, cosy streets of the harbour district with the old workers' houses. The harbour of Nykøbing lies in continuation of the evocative pedestrian street, and here you will find a lovely, local harbour atmosphere and more good restaurants.
'Ørodde' is bar, which encircles the bay by Nykøbing. The bar is the town's recreational area and offers bathing beach, green areas and sports grounds.
The beach 'Nykøbing Østerstrand' on the bar 'Ørodde' is a good bathing beach with bathing jetty and Blue Flag. The 20 m wide and 20 km long beach with sand and stones has shallow, clear water and a lovely sandy bottom. Therefore the beach is very suitable for children. Beach volley is a very popular activity here.
On the bar 'Ørodde' you will find a green area with plantation and bathing beach - a very popular excursion spot.
The forest 'Legind Bjerge Plantage', close to Jesperhus Blomsterpark, is a very varied forest with valleys, lakes and high old trees from north-western USA.
On the northern part of Mors the viewpoints 'Salgerhøj' and 'Hanklit' are situated. With their 87 metres above sea level they are the highest points on Mors.
The Liim Fiord island is surrounded by scenic shores - high cliffs succeed salt meadows with a rich bird life.
Mors and the neighbouring island Fur are the only places in the world with deposit of the clay 'moler' in the subsoil.
The fishing possibilities are ideal along the beautiful Liim Fiord shores on Mors. Furthermore a couple of Put & Take fishponds are available in the area, like i.a. 'Morsø Fiskepark' by Nykøbing.
Tennis courts are available on Ørodde.
Golf players will find good opportunities in the area. 'Moors Golfklub' by Nykøbing has been established on a meadow area with a stream system. In Gatten you will find Northern Europe¿s larges golf grounds 'Himmerland Golf & Country Club' with challenges for both beginners and experienced golf players (61 km).
Mors is ideal for an active holiday, and it is possible to rent bicycles here and follow the marked sunshine route (solskinsruten) all around the island (120 km all together).
Mors is an inspiring place for artists, and all over Mors you will find galleries, exhibitions, collections, museums and workshops.
The convent 'Dueholm Kloster' in Nykøbing, which was founded by the Order of Malta in the year 1371, is the oldest building in town. Today the 5 historic building are used for exhibitions.
The castle Højriis Slot is like something out of a fairy-tale. It is Denmark's oldest manor house and open to the public.
The flower park 'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' is the largest flower park in Scandinavia with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with i.a. beautiful tropical birds, pirate and play land as well as a water world (5 km).
'Skarregaard' is an old and well-preserved family farm in scenic surroundings. Today the farm functions as a farm museum (17 km).
On 'Molermuseet' in Hesselbjerg you can see the amazing finds of 55 million years old fossils (fossilized animals and plants), which were dug out from the moler (18 km).
The manor house 'Hessel' on the preserved peninsular Louns by Hvalpsund is the only preserved manor house in Denmark with a thatched roof. Here you can experience how family and servants lived in the old days (31 km).
The island Fur offers diversified and distinctive landscapes, which is characterized by level moors, lakes, fields, hills, steep coastal cliffs, forests and moler graves (33 km).
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (44 km).
The scenically situated stone age centre 'Stenaldercentret' in Ertebølle describes the nature in and around Ertebølle 6-7,000 years ago as well as the life of the people in this environment. Among other things finds from a stone age kitchen midden are displayed here. A reconstructed village shows what the huts of that time looked like (48 km).
