Gistrup lies south of the Liim Fiord in the eastern part of northern Jutland. Fields and forest surround the cosy town, and the area is an ideal holiday destination for nature lovers. Gistrup has an untraditional church, a famous golf course and good shopping possibilities. In Aalborg, 9 km towards west, you will find a number of shops, restaurants, leisure activities and sights.
No beach is available right by Gistrup, but with the short distance to the Kattegat, more good bathing beaches are within reach.
By Mulbjerge and the valley ''Stejlgabet'' a pier has been established, and it is possible to swim from this. Here you will also find a lovely sandy beach with calm water. The beach is traffic-free and has Blue Flag (25 km).
The beach of Øster Hurup is a kilometres long, white bathing beach with low dunes and Blue Flag. The beach is very suitable for children because of the small waves and the shallow water. The beach is also a popular place for bathing, sunbathing, windsurfing and other beach activities (39 km).
Gistrup is situated right by the beautiful, idyllic and undulating nature forest Lundby Krat. The forest has a number of marked walking paths and contains i.a. the 104 hectares large preserved area Lundby Bakker. Here you will also find a rich animal life. You can hike, drive on bicycle, ride on a horse, make a picnic or look for mushrooms in this scenic forest.
Fields and varying vegetation in the slightly hilly landscape characterize the area, surrounding Gistrup.
The stream ''Lindenborg Å'' flows close to Gistrup and enables you to fish or sail in canoe.
The golf course of ''Ørnehøj Golfklub'' is situated in the western outskirts of Gistrup. The course is scenic and varying with more grave mounds, and surrounded by forest.
A couple of riding schools are available in Gistrup and the nearby town Klarup.
It is possible to fish in the Liim Fiord, in the Kattegat as well as in the nearby stream ''Lindenborg Å''. Lindenborg Å also offers the opportunity of sailing in canoe.
At the go-cart track of Mou interesting arrangements for the whole family are arranged. Experience speed and excitement on the 600 metres long track (18 km).
Aalborg is the capital of northern Jutland and lies only 9 km from Gistrup. Here you will find more interesting museums, cultural and fun sights, pedestrian streets, the charming town centre, the amusement street Jomfru Ane Gade and various restaurants.
Aalborg Zoo is a lovely and green garden in scenic surroundings, where you can get close to 800 interesting and endangered animals from all over the world.
From Egense (25 km) you can go on a 5 minutes ferry trip across the Liim Fiord to the town Hals, which is a cosy holiday town with a vivid harbour atmosphere. The fortress Hals Skanse is situated by the mouth of the Liim Fiord. The powder magazine and the arsenal are preserved and a museum has been established in the latter. The museum of Hals shows an exhibition of local history about the sea, inlet, town, fortress, war and occupation.
At the farm Vildtfarm Nord in Nibe you can experience animals and birds from the northern part of the world on an app. 25 hectares large area (27 km).
In the lime pit Thingbæk Kalkminer by the national park Rold Skov an underground sculpture museum has been established in the old mine passages (35 km).
In the amusement park Fårup Sommerland by the holiday town Blokhus you can try out more than 50 exciting rides for the whole family (48 km).
