The 1,000-year-old town Kerteminde is a vivid commercial town with an active fishing harbour, a large and cosy marina, charming joined huses as well as interesting shops, restaurants and sights. You will sense a quite special atmosphere in the narrow streets and alleys with the colourful small houses, the old merchant''s houses and the reed roofs. The town is surrounded by the gentle inlet on one side and the open Great Belt on the other. The holiday house area by Kerteminde is encircled by a lovely landscape with plantation.

The bathing beaches of Kerteminde are situated both south and north of the harbour. The bottoms are sandy and the beaches are very suitable for children. The water is very clear and the Blue Flag are waving on the beaches. ''Nordstranden'' is the most visited part of the beach. By both beaches a bathing beach, an ice-cream stall, toilets and parking places are available. The area also offers good opportunities for windsurfing.


Bird enthusiasts can follow the many birds over the inlet. Geese, ducks and swans often visit the inlet by Kerteminde. Near Kerteminde you can take a walk in the beautiful forest Lundsgårdsskoven. North of Kerteminde lies the isthmus Hindsholm, which offers a scenic and exceptional nature with i.a. Fyns Hoved (the tip of Funen), beaches, hills, picturesque villages, large manor houses and more relics. By Fyns Hoved the magnificent nature is rich in animals. The island Romsø in the Great Belt is also worth a visit. This pearl of natural history offers a wild, thick nature with a large stock of fallow deer.


In Kerteminde you can play tennis, petanque and minigolf, waterski, dive and play beach-volley. Within a radius of 25 km from Kerteminde you will find 3 golf courses by: Sct. Knuds Golfklub in Nyborg, Odense Eventyr Golf and Odense Golfklub. A number of good fishing spots are available along the shores of Kerteminde. You can also fish from the southern stone pier by the harbour. Furthermore it is possible to go deep-sea fishing onboard a fishing vessel from Kerteminde. With its lovely nature and many sights, Hindsholm is a lovely area for bicycle rides, and furthermore, the angling possibilities are plentiful here. From the harbour of Kerteminde you can go on a sail on the inlet, to the scenic island Romsø or on porpoise safari. Every summer you can take part in an evocative cherry festival in Kerteminde with music, Funen specialities and a torchlight procession.

Worth a visit

In the aqua centre Fjord- & Bæltcentret in Kerteminde you can experience the mysteries of the sea, seen with the eyes of a diver, from a 50 metres long underwater tunnel or get close to seals and porpoise from the outdoor bridge. Farvergården is an old merchant''s house from the year 1630. The museum contains a living room from a farm house and from a middle class house from around the year 1850 among other things. Next to the still running mill Svanemøllen you can observe the works of art of the painter Johannes Larsen as well as other painters at the museum Johannes Larsens Museet. At the Viking museum Vikingemuseet Ladby in Kerteminde you can experience Viking finds and a mound with the old Viking ship Ladbyskibet. Viby on Hindsholm is one of the most well-preserved villages in Funen with half-timbered houses and a newly restored mill, which is running during the summer (7 km). A number of properties and manor houses are situated around Kerteminde.

Excursion spots

Visit the home town of ''H.C. Andersen'', Odense, a modern and evocative town with a number of leisure potentialities in the shape of music, theatre, shows on the squares of the town, pedestrian streets, cafés, restaurants and pubs (20 km). In Odense Zoo you can see a special chimpanzee department and a large ''Oceanarium''. ''Den Fynske Landsby'' by Odense is an open-air museum, showing a Funen village environment from around the year 1850. The beautiful castle ''Egeskov Slot'' by Kværndrup is characterized as one of the best preserved Renaissance island forts in Europe. See the beautiful gardens, a giant maze and more museums here (40 km).
