The atmosphere is nice in the old town Bagenkop. Especially in the summer time you can sense the vivid and pleasant holiday atmosphere when the yachts come alongside in the small marina of the town. Here a petanque course and more restaurants are available. Bagenkop is the leading fishing town on Langeland and when the cutters return home from the sea, you can buy fresh fish on the old fishing harbour.
It is possible to buy groceries in the town, but if you prefer a larger selection of shops, you can visit Rudkøbing, the lovely 'capital' of Langeland, which lies 26 km towards north.
Bagenkop has a bathing beach with sand, stones and grass.
The best sandy beach on Langeland (and one of the best in Denmark) you will find by Hesselbjerg, only a few km from Bagenkop. The beach of Hesselbjerg has fine sand, dunes and shallow calm water, which make the beach very suitable for children. The beach also has the Blue Flag.
The beach of Ristinge by Humble is with its fine sand, sandy bottom and shallow water also very suitable for children. This beach has the Blue Flag and offers good conditions for windsurfers.
Bagenkop lies sheltered by the steep slopes, and is surrounded by cliffs, forests, meadows, coves and a large bird sanctuary 'Gulstav Mose' with a number of interesting birds.
The shape of the cliff 'Dovns Klint' always changes after a storm. Here you will find a rich bird life as well.
On the southern tip of Langeland, the lighthouse 'Kelds Nor Fyr' is situated. The old lighthouse is 39 metres high and from the top you will have an amazing view of Langeland, the water, the island Ærø and on a clear day it is possible to see all the way to Kiel in Germany. On the way to the lighthouse you are passing the nature reserve 'Gulstav'.
The undulating landscape offers many marked routes, which can be followed on foot, on bicycle or on horseback. The many hills along the routes invite you to stop and enjoy the scenic view of the landscape.
On southern Langeland anglers will find good conditions. The cliff 'Dovns Klint' is a popular fishing spot, but it is also possible to fish in a Put & Take fishpond by Humble or to go deep-sea fishing onboard a fishing vessel.

One of the relics on the island is the well-preserved passage grave 'Hulbjerg Jættestue' by Bagenkop. Here it is possible to crawl into the old burial chamber, but remember to bring a torch.
Visit the 700-years old marked town Rudkøbing, which has preserved its original beautiful houses. See the old part of town, the idyllic small streets with uneven cobblestones, the cosy marina 'Rudkøbing Skudehavn' as well as the traffic harbour 'Rudkøbing Trafikhavn' (26 km).
