Udbyhøj is a cosy fishing hamlet, which connects Djursland with northern Jutland through the smallest car ferry in the country. Year round the small ferry transports both local residents as well as tourists over the inlet 'Randers Fjord' in just a few minutes. Udbyhøj has both a fishing harbour, by the north shore of the inlet, and a marina, by the south of the inlet.
It is possible to buy groceries in the town. The area offers good leisure activities. I.a. is the district and the shores off Udbyhøj very popular among anglers.
South of Udbyhøj a number of lovely and sandy bathing beaches are available. Most of the beaches have fine sand, shallow water and a sandy bottom. The beaches are suitable for children and have been awarded with the Blue Flag.
The beaches of St. Sjørup and Lystrup are some of the best Kattegat beaches of the area.
North of the inlet, in the game preserve 'Sødring Vildtreservat', you can experience a scenic, 38 hectares large tidal area with an amazingly rich and interesting bird life.
Further north, by the inlet 'Mariager Fjord', you can walk in the large salt meadows and the vigorous forest areas. Along the inlet it is possible to follow the paths on foot or bicycle.
The forest 'Rold Skov' and the national park 'Rebild Bakker' is a large area of scenic nature with undulating terrain, forest lakes, varying forest, a rich animal life and many walking paths.
The golf course 'Norddjursland Golfbane' is a course of medium difficulty, which is situated in a slightly hilly terrain. The course is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. The courses by Kalø and Grenå are also worth a visit.
Anglers will find good opportunities both in the inlet and in the sea. You can fish from the pier by Udbyhøj Syd, from the beach of St. Sjørup or on the sea. It is possible to rent a boat in the area. The good currents in the inlet 'Randers Fjord' provide you with optimal fishing possibilities.
Experience the area and the nature on bicycle or enjoy a long walk along the shores.
By Udbyhøj you will find a historic redoubt installation from the English War in the beginning of the 19th. century. The installation is situated in a scenic landscape and the entrance is free.
At the nature centre 'Naturcenter Randers Fjord' by Voer Færgested, about 10 km from Udbyhøj, you can learn about life in and around the inlet 'Randers Fjord' - and participate in the activities yourselves
The grave of Hamlet is situated on the way towards Randers, about 20 km from Udbyhøj.
Towards south-east you can experience the idyllic nature landscape of Djursland and see some of the many castles and manor houses.
Visit f.x. the beautiful manor house Gl. Estrup, which is surrounded by moats and a scenic baroque garden. The manor house is open to the public and contains a manor house museum as well as an agricultural museum, which illustrates the contrasts between the nobility and the village life throughout the centuries (23 km).
In the 'rain forest' Randers Regnskov you can experience jungle paths, rocks, crocodiles and waterfalls (35 km).
The castle 'Rosenholm Slot' is situated just north of Hornslet, and here you can have a conducted tour and visit the beautiful castle garden (43 km).
In the animal park 'Skandinavisk Dyrepark' you will have genuine nature experiences. From the 250 metres long footbridge you can observe the bears in the amazing bear park (44 km).
An impressive sight awaits you in the aquarium 'Kattegatcentret'. Observe the fearful sharks at close range behind a thick pane of glass (52 km).
The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' by Nimtofte is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family (61 km).
The viking centre 'Fyrkat' by the inlet 'Mariager Fjord' contains the preserved castle mounds Fyrkat as well as reconstructions of a castle house and a viking farm with nine houses, build shortly before the year 1,000.
