The quiet and cosy holiday house area by Skæring in the bay of Århus is situated about 12 km north of the centre of Århus, and from here you can enjoy the view of Mols and the nature area 'Mols Bjerge'. Skæring has a good, little beach with good conditions for surfers and anglers. Just north of Skæring you can experience the maritime environment in the idyllic harbour 'Kaløvig Bådehavn'. It is possible to buy groceries in Skæring, and Århus offers good shopping possibilities, a number of restaurants, leisure activities and sights for the whole family.
Along the bay of Århus you will find a number of lovely, sandy beaches, which are all very suitable for children. The beach of Skæring is a small and quiet beach. It is popular to surf here. The most famous beaches of the area are 'Bellevue Strand' and the public baths 'Den Permanente', which both have find sand, shallow water and a sandy bottom. You will find both beaches south of Skæring and north of the centre of Århus.
The landscape, surrounding Århus, is very varied and consists of meadows, lakes, valleys, beautiful beaches and old forests. By Risskov, 5 km south of Skæring, you will find a lovely forest area, which originates from mediaeval times. Just south of Århus, the great forest area 'Marselisborgskovene' is situated. The terrain is very undulating and some places the trees grow all the way out to the water. Experience the fantastic tranquillity and the adventurous atmosphere in the old and beautiful forest. 'Marselisborgskovene' also contains a cosy animal park with i.a. free-range roe deer. The spectacular landscape 'Mols Bjerge' is a magnificent and preserved nature landscape with a varying nature, a number of walking paths, grave mounds and a rich animal life. Enjoy a great view of Mols, the Kattegat as well as the coves 'Kalø Vig' and 'Ebeltoft Vig' from the viewpoints 'Agri Bavnehøj' (137 m) and 'Trehøje' (127 m).
A number of golf courses are available in this area, and the courses of 'Mollerup Golf Club' in Risskov, 'Aarhus Aadal Golf Club' and 'Aahus Golf Club' are the closest. It is possible to fish in the stream 'Århus Å' and the bay 'Århus Bugt', and furthermore, you will find more lovely Put & Take fishponds in the area. The bay of Århus also offers good conditions for windsurfers. At i.a. Surfcenter Åkrogen you can get instructions and rent equipment. The scenic nature areas, surrounding Århus, invite walking and bicycle trips. A bicycle path leads along the water, all the way from Risskov, past Skæring to the harbour 'Kaløvig Bådehavn'.
Worth a visit
Visit Århus, the 'capital' of Jutland, with the amusement park 'Tivoli Friheden', the open-air museum 'Den Gamle By', the music house 'Musikhuset', the small and intimate alleys of the Latin Quarter, the cosy pedestrian streets, the lively atmosphere by stream 'Vadestedet' as well as the forest `Marselisborgskoven¿ (12 km). The castle ruin 'Kalø Slotsruin' from the year 1313 is a famous tourist attraction. The ruin is scenically situated right by the cove of Kalø Vig and treasures many incredible and interesting stories (20 km). 'Moesgård Museum' on the manor house Moesgård contains an archaeological collection from Denmark and the Persian Gulf. The museum is idyllically situated and surrounded by lovely forest, which leads all the way down to the bay of Århus (22 km).
Moat, forest, fields and meadow scenically surround the castle 'Gl. Estrup'. The castle also contains a manor house museum and an agricultural museum (26 km). In the animal park 'Skandinavisk Dyrepark' you will have genuine nature experiences. From the 250 metres long footbridge you can observe the bears in the amazing bear park (29 km). The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family (31 km). The frigate 'Jylland' is the largest wooden warship in the world. The hull is 71 metres long, the spread of canvas is 1,881 square metres and it weights 2,450 (38 km). In the 'rain forest' Randers Regnskov you can experience jungle paths, rocks, crocodiles and waterfalls (39 km). The 147 metres high 'mountain', 'Himmelbjerget', by Silkeborg is a famous and scenic excursion point. From the tower on the mountain you can enjoy a magnificent view of the scenic landscape (app. 50 km).
