Selkær is a quiet nature and forest area by Glesborg, on the northern part of Djursland, about 8 km from the shore and 12 km from Grenå.

The holiday house area by Selkær is centrally situated in green, recreational surroundings with short distances to shopping possibilities, cosy farm shops, interesting sights, leisure activities, lovely nature landscapes and good bathing beaches. Selkær is an ideal area if you wish to spend your holiday in quiet and peaceful nature surroundings, and with towns, sights and leisure activities within reach.
About 10 km north-east of Selkær you will find two lovely bathing beaches. The beaches 'Bønnerup Strand' and 'Gjerrild Nordstrand' both have fine sand, shallow water, a sandy bottom and Blue Flag. They are also very suitable for children. More bathing jetties are available along the shores.
As the nature, surrounding Selkær, has a forest character, you will find a rich animal life here. Especially squirrel are frequently seen here. South of Selkær you will find the sound 'Kolind Sund' and a fertile nature, which invites long walks and bicycle trips. In Kolind you can rent canoes and experience the sound from the seaward side. By the shore, north of Grenå, the town Karlby and the cliffs 'Sangstrup Klinter' are situated. Take a walk in this area, enjoy the great views and search for fossils. East of Bønnerup, right by the Kattegat, you will find the scenic and ecological forest 'Emmedsbo Skov', which has a rich animal life, more lakes as well as many paths and roads.
Anglers will find good fishing opportunities in the area, like i.a. by the sound 'Kolind Sund' and in the Kattegat from the cliff 'Gjerrild Klint'. Furthermore, one of the largest Put & Take fishponds on Djursland, 'Hammelevgård Ørredvand', is situated right by Selkær. Deep-sea fishing trips onboard a fishing vessel are arranged from the harbour of Grenå. West of Grenå you will find a lovely golf course with challenges for both beginners and experienced players. The location of Selkær, close to Grenå, provides you with a number of leisure activities. In Grenå you can play tennis, bowl, drive in go-carts and make use of the swimming baths of the town.
Worth a visit
4 km from Selkær you will find the beautiful vicarage 'Rimsø Præstegård'. The half-timbered farm with a thatched room is Denmark's oldest vicarage, build in the year 1593 and definitely worth a visit. In Stenvad, 8 km towards west, the centre for exploitation of bogs 'Stenvad Mosebrugscenter', a narrow-gauge line and a museum are situated. You can take a ride with the old train here. A cosy atmosphere prevails in Bønnerup among the old fishing houses and in the scenically situated and active fishing harbour and marina. The harbour is a lovely place to sojourn and offers tables, benches and bbqs. You can buy fresh fish here every day (8 km). Like the rest of Djursland, the area, surrounding Selkær, also offers more beautiful castles and manor houses. Visit i.a. the manor house 'Mejlgaard' or the castle 'Sostrup Slot' and experience the adventure around the historic buildings.
You will find rich possibilities for sightseeing and shopping in the more than 500 years old marked town Grenå. Experience the charming atmosphere in the modern marina, where you can follow the traffic of the ships while you dine at one of the restaurants along the water. An impressive sight awaits you in the aquarium 'Kattegatcentret'. Observe the fearful sharks at close range behind a thick pane of glass (13 km). The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family. When the entry has been paid, you can make use of all activities for free (17 km). In the animal park 'Skandinavisk Dyrepark' you will have genuine nature experiences. From the 250 metres long footbridge you can observe the bears in the amazing bear park (23 km). The railway museum 'Djurslands Jernbanemuseum' in Ryomgård exhibits objects from the history of the Danish railway (23 km).
