Risskov, the most fashionable neighbourhood in Aarhus, is situated right by the lovely beaches of the Kattegat. Risskov is called after the beautiful old forest Riis Skov, right by the quarter. Here you will stay in superior and scenic surroundings.
A few kilometres towards north you will find the town Egå with the lake Egå Engsø and a charming marina.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area. The centre of Aarhus is only 7 kilometres away and offers cultural sights, amusements, the evocative quarter Latinerkvarteret, café atmosphere along the stream, shopping centres and pedestrian streets with good shopping opportunities and a number of restaurants.
By Risskov you will find a lovely sandy beach with long bathing jetties. In this area you can also visit the popular beach Bellevue Strand as well as the baths 'Den Permanente' - both with fine sand, shallow water and a sandy bottom.
Risskov is surrounded by the Kattegat and the beautiful forest Riis Skov, which originates from medieval times. Here you can walk, exercise as well as enjoy nature and the silence. The forest also contains an area, where dogs can run around without a leash.
A few kilometres from Risskov you will find the recently established lake Egå Engsø from 2006. Enjoy the rich bird and animal life, the natural play ground with stone age theme as well as the good walking paths around the lake. From a gazebo in the area you can observe the activities of the birds.
Just south of Aarhus the scenic forest area Marselisborgskovene is located. The ground is hilly and some places the trees grow all the way down to the water's edge. Near Marselisborgskovene you will find a cosy animal park with free range roe deer among others (11 km).
The scenic nature, surrounding Aarhus, invites walks and bicycle trips. You can for example follow a bicycle path, which begins in Risskov, follows the water past Skæring and ends by the boat harbour Kaløvig Bådehavn.
Golfers are able to test more courses in this area, among others the courses of Mollerup Golf Club in Risskov, Aarhus Aadal Golf Club and Aarhus Golf Club.
Anglers can fish in the stream Aarhus Å, in the bay of Arhus or in one of the cosy Put & Take fishponds of the area.
Visit the museum Museet Psykiatrisk Hospital in Risskov, where you can see a psychiatry-historical collection with art, created by psychiatric patients.
Aarhus - the 'capital' of Jutland - offers the quarter Latinerkvarteret with small and intimate alleys, a vivid café environment, the art museum ARoS, the amusement park Tivoli Friheden, the open-air museum Den Gamle By, a botanical gardens, a music house and the cathedral Aarhus Domkirke.
The manor house Moesgård in the town Højbjerg contains an interesting museum: Moesgård Museum, which shows an archaeological collections from Denmark and the Persian Golf. The museum is picturesquely situated and surrounded by a lovely forest, which leads all the way down to the bay of Aarhus (16 km).
The castle Gl. Estrup near Auning is scenically surrounded by a moat, forest, fields and meadows. Gl. Estrup contains the manor house museum Jyllands Herregårsmuseum and the agricultural museum Dansk Landbrugsmuseum (32 km).
The rainforest Randers Regnskov is divided up in an Asian, an African and a South American dome - each one with the tropical animals and plants, which originate from the area (39 km).
In the animal park Skandinavisk Dyrepark near Kolind you will have genuine nature experiences. Among other things you can observe the bears from the 250 metres long footbridge in the amazing bear park (43 km).
The amusement park Djurs Sommerland in Nimtofte offers a number of activities - like for example Piraten: Denmark's greatest and fastest switchback (45 km).
