It is possible to buy groceries in Lystrup, and it is not far to the town Randers and the shops, restaurants, leisure activities and sights of Djursland from here.
By the beach of Lystrup the water is shallow and therefore the beach is very suitable for children. Furthermore, the beach has a lovely, sandy bottom. A number of good bathing beaches are available on northern Djursland.
The beaches of Fjellerup and Bønnerup are both wide beaches with dunes and good conditions for windsurfing. Both of these beaches are awarded with the Blue Flag.
The nature, surrounding Lystrup is very varying and characterized by lovely salt meadows, fields, heathery hills and forests.
In the river valley 'Hevring Ådal', 7 km west of Lystrup, the walking paths lead you through a very varying landscape - from pine plantations, through meadow areas, over heathery hill and further on to marsh areas. On the walk through the river valley you will also experience an amazingly rich bird life.
The forest 'Løvenholm Skov', 7 km south of Lystrup, stretches in a south-easterly direction and contains the lakes 'Vallum Sø', 'Skarresø', 'Øjesø', 'Langesø', 'Stubbesø' and 'Draaby Sø'.
Golf players will find good opportunities in the area. Only a few km from Lystrup the course of 'Norddjurslands Golf Klub' is situated, but the courses in Grenå and Ebeltoft are also worth a visit.
A half an hours drive south-east of Lystrup (20 km) you will find the town Kolind and the sound 'Kolindsund'. The channels of the sound are filled with water and ideal for fishing or sailing trips in canoe or kayak.
Anglers can fish from the shore by Lystrup, from a boat on the sea or in the inlet 'Randers Fjord'.
Lovely nature experiences await you along the walking paths of the river valley 'Hevring Ådal'. The good beaches by the north coast of Djursland also invite long walks.
A few km east of Lystrup you can experience the cromlechs of Tustrup. On a preserved area, a reconstructed passage grave, a cult house as well as more dolmen chambers have been established.
At the nature centre 'Naturcenter Randers Fjord' by Voer Færgested, about 10 km from Lystrup, you can learn about life in and around the inlet 'Randers Fjord' - and participate in the activities yourselves.
Moat, forest, fields and meadow scenically surround the castle 'Gl. Estrup'. The castle also contains a manor house museum and an agricultural museum (12 km).
The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family. When the entry has been paid, you can make use of all activities for free (15 km).
By Udbyhøj you can visit a historic redoubt installation from the English War in the beginning of the 19th. century (19 km).
In the animal park 'Skandinavisk Dyrepark' you will have genuine nature experiences. From the 250 metres long footbridge you can observe the bears in the amazing bear park (20 km).
The 'rain forest' Randers Regnskov is situated about 30 km from Lystrup. Here you can experience jungle paths, rocks, crocodiles and waterfalls. Randers Regnskov lives up to its name.
An impressive sight awaits you in the aquarium 'Kattegatcentret'. Observe the fearful sharks at close range behind a thick pane of glass (32 km).
