Sandvig is a small fishing hamlet by the Baltic, on the northern tip of Bornholm and close to the castle ruin Hammershus.

The cosy town is scenically situated in the bay 'Sandvigbugten' and characterized by old and well-preserved half-timbered houses, stone fence and a small, evocative harbour. Here you will find small galleries, a lovely esplanade and an almost exotic atmosphere. Sandvig offers leisure activities for everyone, and no matter if you wish to swim, fish, relax, have cultural experiences or explore the versatile nature with the spectacular rocky coasts, you can do it here.
Twisting roads lead up to the lighthouse 'Hammerodde Fyr', from where you can see all the way to the Swedish coast in clear weather.
You will find good shopping possibilities and restaurants in Sandvig.
The north coast of Bornholm and the area around Sandvig are characterized by rocky coast, but by Sandvig you will find a lovely sandy beach in a bay. The town is named after this sandy bay. Green hills and cliffs surround the beach. The wide beach by Sandvig is the most popular bathing spot in northern Bornholm. A bathing jetty is available here and during the summer the place is vivid. You can swim, sunbathe and play ball here. It is also very popular to jump into the water from the surrounding cliffs.
Just north and west of Sandvig lies the preserved and magnificent nature area 'Hammerknuden' with the heathery hills, granite cliffs, the lake 'Hammersø', the spring 'Salomons Kilde' and the tip of Bornholm 'Hammerodde' with the lighthouse 'Hammerodde Fyr'. Towards south-west the ruins 'Hammershus Ruiner' is situated in scenic and very undulating nature surroundings. Towards the south you will find the beautiful nature forest 'Slotslyngen' with i.a. an interesting bird cliff `Mulekleven¿.
Sandvig and the northern tip of Bornholm invite walks and stays in the nature.
By 'Helliddomsklipperne' between Gudhjem and Allinge you can experience rugged rock formations, large caves, rocky caves and good viewpoints.
In Sandvig you can make use of the swimming baths of the town or play tennis on the courts right behind the beach.
From the harbour 'Hammerhavnen' you can go on a sailing trip along the coast and experience the magnificent cliffs from the seaward side.
Anglers have good possibilities from the shore, from the cliffs between Sandvig and the harbour, in the streams of the area, in the lake 'Hammersøen' or on the sea, onboard a motorboat, which sails out from the harbour of Sandvig.
Bornholm has 3 18-hole golf courses, from which the course of 'Nordbornholms Golf Klub' by Gudhjem is the closest.
Sandvig is the point of departure for many hiking trips and you will find a number of scenic walking tracks along the rocky coast, through the area 'Hammerknuden' and all the way out to the lighthouse 'Hammerknuden Fyr' and the ruins 'Hammershus Ruiner'.
The scenically situated castle ruin 'Hammershus' is the most popular sight in Bornholm. The castle was abandoned around the year 1745 and fell into ruins after that. Today the ruins are a preserved relic and a sight in a class of its own (2 km).
The battery 'Sandvig Batterierne' is situated close to the harbour of Sandvig and used to be a part of the defence of 'Hammershus'.
Experience a characteristic Bornholm smokehouse 'Nordbornholms Røgeri' in Allinge, where fish are still smoked according to the traditional method in open chimneys and delicious smoked food are being prepared (3 km).
In the quarry museum 'Moseløkkens Stenbrudsmuseum' you can see how the granite is being processed and follow the development of this trade throughout the years (3 km).
Many craftsmen inhabit the island, and more places it is possible to visit the sculptors, glass blowers, ceramic artist and painters.
The round churches are the landmarks of Bornholm. The characteristic and whitewashed churches, which are more than 800 years old, have served as defence, storage of supplies and as church houses. The 4 most famous churches are: Østerlars, Olsker, Nylars and Nyker.
'Oluf Høst Museum' has been established in the home of the artist in Gudhjem, and here you can experience his paintings.
In Gudhjem you will also find the art museum 'Bornholms Kunstmuseum' with works of famous Bornholm painters and craftsmen.
'Bornholms Middelaldercenter' in Gudhjem is a historic experience centre. The live environment from the Middle Ages (the period 1350-1450) contains living-quarters, a water mill, a forge and a fortified castle mounds (17 km).
'JOBOLAND Brændesgårdshaven' in Svaneke is a former farm, but today a popular nature and amusement park with a unique profusion of flowers and numerous attractions (31 km).
