Gudhjem on the east coast of Bornholm is a popular holiday area with cosy holiday homes. The area centres around the charming harbour with a smoke house, and in the steep streets of Gudhjem, which lead up from the harbour, you will find beautiful half-timbered houses, shops, cafés and lovely holiday homes.

Gudhjem is situated on a mountainside and characterized by its 3 small and cosy harbours, the reed roofs, the steep streets, the picturesque half-timbered houses, the smokehouses, the artists and craftsmen, the galleries, the workshops and the almost exotic atmosphere.
The many artists in town are daily inspired by the light, environment and lovely nature of Gudhjem. The town offers good shopping possibilities, and you will also find more good cafés and restaurants here. Try for example one of the fish specialities of the island 'Sol over Gudhjem' on one of the restaurants along the waterfront.
Gudhjem is surrounded by cliffs and therefore sheltered from the westerly wind. The bathing place 'Pengakjistan' by Gudhjem consists exclusively of rocks.
Just south of Gudhjem you will find the beach 'Melsted Strand', which is a small beach with coarse sand. The bottom is partly sandy, partly stony, and a footbridge is available, which enables you to walk out to the sandy bottom.
By Dueodde, on the southern tip of Bornholm, you will find the beach 'Østersøstranden', which is a magnificent, wide and chalk-white sandy beach. The beach is very suitable for children, as the water is shallow by the edge. You will find many sand bars in the slightly shelving water, which is clear and clean (30 km).
The heathery hill 'Bokulfjeld' rises behind town and behind 'Bokul' you will find a plantation with innumerable monoliths. Gudhjem Plantage is a small forest with a beautiful and romantic forest lake 'Gråmyr'.
The landscape, surrounding Gudhjem, is very undulation and provides you with some unique panoramic views of both the sea and the area.
By 'Helliddomsklipperne', a few km north of Gudhjem, steps lead you down through a gorge. The rugged rock formations in the water contribute to creating dramatic sceneries. This area is rich in caves. North-west of here you will find the valley 'Døndalen' with a stream, which creates an up to 25 metres high waterfall in spring - Døndalsfaldet.
In the middle of Bornholm one of the most beautiful forests of the country, Almindingen, is situated. Different marked routes lead you through the forest, where you can experience the 162 metres high hill 'Rytterknægten', beautiful forest lakes and the largest rift valley of the island.
The spectacular cliffs along the shores encourage you to take a walk around Gudhjem. Follow f.x. the old life saving path and experience the many differences in level and scenic views.
Anglers can fish both from the shores and on the sea. Furthermore, a couple of Put & Take fishponds are available in Bornholm.
Golf players can try out the 3 courses of the island, belonging to the clubs 'Nordbornholms Golf Klub', 'Bornholms Golf Klub' in Rønne and 'Nexø Golf Klub'.
The many marked walking, bicycle and bridle paths of the island enable you to experience the scenic and distinguished nature landscape at close range.
Gudhjem has a number of smokehouses, galleries, potteries and glass factories. In the church of Gudhjem you can see the beautiful frescos.
Gudhjem Museum has been established in the old railway station and displays varying exhibitions throughout the year.
'Oluf Høst Museum' in Gudhjem is an art museum, where the painter's life is carried on in his own home.
'Bornholms Middelaldercenter' in Gudhjem is a historic experience centre. The live environment from the Middle Ages (the period 1350-1450) contains living-quarters, a water mill, a forge and a fortified castle mounds.
Melstedgård is an animated agricultural museum with houses, fields and stables (3 km).
At the art museum 'Bornholms Kunstmuseum' (by Helligdomsklipperne) works of famous Bornholm painters as well as theme exhibitions with art, design and handicraft can be observed.
'JOBOLAND Brændesgårdshaven' in Svaneke is a former farm, but today a popular nature and amusement park with a unique profusion of flowers and numerous attractions (14 km).
Hammershus is an impressive old castle from around the year 1250, which rises from a steep rock hillock on the northern tip of Bornholm. Hammershus is the largest castle ruin in Northern Europe (20 km).
'NaturBornholm' in Åkirkeby informs of the nature of Bornholm - right from the origination in the glowing lava 1.7 billion years ago (23 km).
The 4 round churches are the landmarks of Bornholm. Experience the characteristic, whitewashed churches, which are more than 800 years old and have served as defence, storage of supplies and as church houses. 'Østerlars' is the largest and most famous. 'Olsker' is the highest and most elegant. 'Nylars' is the best preserved and has interesting frescos. 'Nyker' is the smallest and has frescos from more eras.
