Statens Museum for Kunst

Exhibition room at SMKSMK
SMK (Statens Museum for Kunst) is Denmark’s largest art museum, located in the heart of Copenhagen, just a 5-minutes’ walk from the train station Nørreport. Here you can experience the latest art in all of its swarming diversity, see the greatest pearls of the Nordic Golden Age and come close to the mediaeval European classics. End your visit with a cup of coffee in the sunny museum garden or take an art break in the café, where you can enjoy a brunch or home-baked cakes. Experience the art in your own way, when it expands in new special exhibitions, performances, concerts, art talks, movies and workshops for children year round. And there is plenty more on the program. Read more about all of the exhibitions and events at SMK on

An abundance of offers for families with children invite you to explore and investigate the many directions of creativity at SMK. Take part in guided tour for children, visit the drawing room, try out the family game Match SMK or see the children’s exhibitions of SMK. In the workshop of the children, where artist are ready to guide children into the world of the art every weekend, children can create works of art by means of clay, paper, canvas, paint, pencils, glue guns and paint brushes. On the first Sunday of every month we focus on activities at a children’s level. On the scene everyone is invited to create large common works of art in co-operation with artists, educated at the art academy, and you can take part in guided tours for children across the collections of the museum.
