In the shade of the pyramids
02-11-2011
Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek presents an exhibition about the archaeologist Flinders Petries and his excavations in Egypt.
The exhibition 'I pyramidernes skygge' (In the shade of the pyramids) focuses on the father of archaeology, the eccentric British archaeologist and Egyptologist Flinders Petries (1853-1942), who among other things lived in a rock cave and had Lawrence of Arabia as his assistant. Here you can come close to the finds of Petries and you can see grave finds as well as parts of statues and temple walls from the prehistoric town Memphis and the burial sites Meidum and Hawara. You can experience the exhibition from 11th November 2011 until 25th March 2012, and the admission for the museum is free.
