Årøsund is a cosy holiday destination near the Little Belt with a lovely nature and good opportunities for leisure activities. The South Jutlandic seaport Årøsund is located just south of the place, where the inlet Haderslev Fjord flows into the Little Belt, 15 km from Haderslev, and with a view of the small idyllic island Årø. The focal point of the town is the cosy harbour with a shipyard, fishing boats and pleasure cruisers. In Årøsund you can swim, sail, fish, hike and drive on bicycle. You can buy groceries in the town and visit the restaurant in the restored and very charming beach hotel Årøsund Badehotel.
BeachIn the southern part of Årøsund you will find a lovely and child-friendly bathing beach. You can also visit a good sandy beach near Flovt. Along the shore windsurfers can enjoy the good wind conditions.
NatureSea, green spaces and fields surround Årøsund. Above Årøsund you can observe hunting sea eagles, if you are in luck.
Near Flovt (5 km) you will find the beautiful forest Skovgaard Skov, which is managed according to the principle of sustainability.
Just south of Haderslev you can take a walk in the idyllic forest Pamhule Skov. The forest has a rich animal life, many hill and cliffs as well as marked walking paths (15 km).
The area Årø Kalv on the island Årø is a large bird sanctuary, and bird enthusiasts are welcome to visit the place outside the breeding season. Along the southern shore of Årø you can sometimes see porpoise gambol in the water near the shore.
ActivitiesÅrøsund is an ideal holiday destination for anglers. You can fish in the harbour of Årøsund and along the shore, where it is possible to catch big sea trout among others. The sea by Årøsund also invites swimming, surfing and diving.
You can go on a sail with the steamboat from Årøsund and sail through the 12 km long inlet Haderslev Fjord. A very scenic sail.
The area is rich in nature paths along the sea, and by following these, you will walk pass meadows and fields with grazing animals. And the whole time you can enjoy the view of the Little Belt.
Golfers can test the nearby courses of Haderslev Golfklub or Brundland Golfcenter in Toftlund.
Worth a visitA short sail of 7 minutes from Årøsund brings you to the small and scenic island Årø. Here you can enjoy the landscape, walk along the marked walking paths and enjoy the cosy harbour, the prehistoric finds, the village environments with half-timbered houses, the stone fences, the sunken roads and the well-preserved family farms.
Visit the cathedral town Haderslev with its charming town centre, the cobbled streets and cosy atriums. Here you can go sightseeing, visit museums and galleries as well as shop and dine (15 km).
The deer park Haderslev Dyrehave is a large beautiful and hilly nature area with forest, open grassy plains and meadows. Around 20 red deer and 200 fallow deer live here. A large number of paths lead you around the area (15 km).
In Sønderborg you can enjoy the beautiful waterfront, the historic buildings, the good shopping opportunities and the castle, where you can experience collections from medieval times and up till now. In the summer you can also be present at when knights are tilting at the ring here (67 km).
LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million bricks. Enjoy the speed, excitement and experiences of the more than 50 activities in the park. The amusing playground for the whole family offers knights in armour, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (85 km).
