Torsminde is situated in the scenic western Jutland, on the bar between the North Sea and the inlet Nissum Fjord.
Torsminde is surrounded by a lovely nature landscape, and here you can relax or display activity. In the harbour you can watch the fishing vessels as they return with the haul of the day, buy fresh fish and enjoy the cosy harbour environment. When you walk on the piers, you can enjoy the view of both the inlet and the sea. Torsminde has good shopping possibilities and a lovely restaurant, from which you have an amazing sea view. Holstebro lies 46 km from Torsminde, and here you will find a number of shops, cafés and restaurants.
Beach By Torsminde you will find the lovely North Sea beaches with coarse sand, dunes and deep water. The beach is especially good right north of the harbour and has Blue Flag. If you prefer the smaller beaches, which are very suitable for children, you will find these at the inlet Nissum Fjord. Here the sand is fine and the water shallow. Furthermore, the inlet offers good windsurfing possibilities.
Nature
Green recreational areas, inlet and sea characterize the nature surrounding Torsminde. The area around the inlet Nissum Fjord has a rich animal and bird life. Fjandø is a small island in the southern end of the inlet Nissum Fjord, situated right opposite the main land. The island is laid out as a bird sanctuary and all traffic on the island is prohibited during the summer months. In the plantation Husby Klitplantage, 14 km towards south, you will find a number of lovely marked walking paths. The plantation stretches from the sea and inland, and therefore you can experience a very varied landscape here. Close to the water the plantation consists of dunes and moor landscape, and further inland the vegetations is replaced by pinewood and later by vigorous hardwood forest. The plantation also offers a lovely bathing lake.
Activities Anglers have good possibilities in and around Torsminde. You can go deep-sea fishing on the sea onboard the fishing vessel 'Midboen', throw in the line in the inlet Nissum Fjord or in the North Sea from the piers or the harbour. By Fjand, a few km south of Torsminde, you will also find a good Put & Take fishpond, Fjand Fiskepark, as well as a smokehouse. The area has more golf courses, such as Holstebro Golfklub and Holmsland Golfklub by Søndervig. Torsminde also offers a swimming bath with sauna. For surfers, the conditions are good around Torsminde, both on the North Sea and on the inlet Nissum Fjord. A number of good bicycle and walking paths are available in the area. No matter the time of the year, the beach is ideal for walks.
Worth a visit
The landmark of the town is a mermaid, created by local sculptor, which illustrates the longing for the homecoming of the fishermen. Visit f.x. the wreckage museum 'St. George' in Thorsminde, where you can get a glimpse of daily life onboard the English warships 'St. George' and 'Defence'. The museum was founded after one of the world' largest shipping accidents in the year 1811. Two English ships were shipwrecked here and more than 1,000 lives were lost right outside Torsminde. Hear the tragic story and see objects from the two ships. Among the interesting finds you will find canons, gold coins, music instruments and weapons. The church of Torsminde is rather special as it is established in a former life saving station. In the large manor house Nr. Wosborg from the middle ages you can experience the daily life on a Danish farm.
Excursion spots In Thyborøn you will find both the communication centre 'Kystcentret' and the aquarium 'Jylland Akvariet'. Here you can experience activities, exhibitions and aquariums for everyone. Stroke a shark, make your own thunderstorm or start a tornado (30 km). Visit the old and pretty provincial town Ringkøbing. The town is characterized by its houses with red tiled roofs and its old cobbled streets (42 km). Ringkøbing Museum exhibits finds from an iron-age village in Fjand, such as f.x. a famous charred door. The commercial town Holstebro has a number of interesting specialist shops and good shopping possibilities in the traffic-free town centre. Furthermore, the town offers plenty of art and culture, cosy cafes and a beautiful environment around the stream (46 km). The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family.
