The town Sunds lies by the lake Sunds Sø in the middle of the level Jutland heath landscape.
 Sunds is situated in the middle of Denmark, right by the lake Sunds Sø, which is a very popular fishing area. However, the clean lake is also suitable for bathing and sailing. The holiday houses of the area lie in recreational surroundings around the lake. Sunds has a couple of shops and restaurants.
Herning is situated 10 km south of Sunds, and here you will find leisure activities for everyone in the family.
Beach
It is possible to swim in the lake Sunds Sø. The lake has a sandy bottom, the water is clean and a bathing jetty is available.
The nearest North Sea beach lies by Houvig, about 65 km west of Sunds. Here you will find a sandy beach with dunes. However, areas with stones can occur. You are not allowed to bring your car to the beach.
Nature
Sunds is surrounded by a level heath landscape. The lake Sunds Sø is with its 128 hectares the largest heath lake in the country, and it is encircled by an app. 5 km long path that enables you to walk or drive on bicycle around the lake. You will find a rich bird life by the lake, which is also well stocked with fish.
Linnebjerg Bakke is a 74 m high preserved hill, which is covered with heather and trees. The plantation, belonging to the hill, invites hikes.
You will find a number of lakes, plantations, forests, marshes, moor, heath and nature landscapes around Sunds, and lovely nature experiences await you in this unique landscape.
Activities
You have exceptional good fishing possibilities in the lake Sunds Sø.
As the area surrounding Sunds is relatively level, it is a very attractive bicycle area.
Furthermore, it is possible to play golf on one of the 5 golf courses of the area, fish in the Put & Take fishponds, hike in the beautiful Central and Western Jutland nature and sail in canoe on the lake 'Storeåen'.
Worth a visit
The church of Sunds was built in the year 1897 and you will find a model of the training ship 'København' in the nave of the church.
The manor house Herningsholm is the oldest building in Herning and surrounded by ramparts and moats. The building contains a museum, which informs about the moors of Jutland the writer Steen Steensen Blicher.
In general the area has an abundance of churches, monasteries, museums, galleries, monuments as well as gardens and parks.
Excursion spots
Visit the cosy town Herning, which is famous as a textile, fair and culture town. Here you will find a number of galleries, the museum in the honour of the writer Steen Steensen Blicher, the brown coal museum in Søby, the good shopping possibilities and the many restaurants.
In Jyllands Park Zoo, close to Videbæk, you can meet with more than 700 animals and birds from all countries of the world, and the kids are allowed to feed them (32 km).
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (42 km).
In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area (57 km).
LEGOLAND, app. 68 km from Sunds, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities.
