The quiet little town, Skarrild, is situated in the beautiful Jutland moorland, and is an ideal holiday destination for nature lovers and anglers.
 The lake Skjern Å flows through the town of Skarrild, which is one of the reasons why the landscape of the area is so scenic and fertile. The many lakes, stream and lakes make the vicinity around Skarrild very attractive for anglers. The town is situated close to the towns Herning and Brande, which both offer interesting sights, activities and good shopping possibilities.
Beach
From Skarrild there is about an hours drive to the North Sea and f.x. the beach of Nymindegab, where you will find the long, fine and sandy beaches with dunes and Blue Flag.
Good bathing beaches are also available by the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, which is situated about 50 km from Skarrild. By the beach of Bork Havn you can learn how to windsurf.
Nature
 Skarrild is located in the middle of the scenic moors of Jutland, surrounded by forests, rivers and lakes.
The lake Skarrild Å flows through the town and debouches into the lake Skjern Å, which is abounding in fish and winds through the river valley and the peaceful nature area. The river Karstoft Å also flows close to Skarrild.
Near Skarrild you will find the plantation Birkebæk Plantage. With its many forest paths and good viewpoints, the plantation is an obvious excursion point. By this forest area you can also experience the three mound of the bronze age 'Hjortsballehøje'.
Activities
The area offers good possibilities for anglers, as both of the rivers Karstoft Å and Skjern Å are popular fishing spots, where you can fish while you enjoy the undisturbed and fertile nature. The fishponds Højkilde Lystfiskersø and Silstrup Put & Take are also worth a visit.
If you are not into fishing, you can rent canoes and enjoy the fascinating nature from the lakes Skarrild Å, Skjern Å or Karstoft Å. A canoe rest is established by the bridge in Skarrild.
The area offers more good golf courses, and the golf club Åskov Golfklub is situated only a few km from Skarrild.
Lovely nature experiences await you along the marked nature paths in the forests, surrounding Skarrild.
Worth a visit
 The church of Skarrild is one of Denmark's oldest churches, and on the cemetery British pilots from a shot down military plane are buried.
Experience folklore and war story at the regional museum Skarrild-Karstoft.
In the plantation Hesselvig Plantage, a few km east of Skarrild, you will find one of the Denmark¿s only preserved tar ovens. Today the place is a popular excursion point.
By the scenic moor areas and the forest by the river Karstoft Å the former manor house Skarrildhus is situated. The manor house is beautifully restored and around the house you will find a rhododendron park and an idyllic old water mill.
Excursion spots
Visit 'the capital of the moor' - the cosy city Herning, which is well-known as a textile, fair and culture city. Here you will find a number of galleries, the museum of writer Steen Steensen Blicher, the museum of brown coal in Søby, good shopping possibilities and various restaurants (22 km).
In the zoo Jyllands Park Zoo (Haunstrup Dyrepark) you can experience, cuddle and feed more than 700 animals from the whole world (31 km).
In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area (40 km).
The preserved bird sanctuary Tipperne is situated at the bottom of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. Birds from all of Scandinavia stay here a while on their way between their winter quarters and their breeding areas. Spectacular natural sceneries await you here (50 km).
LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities (50 km).
