The calm and cosy holiday area Skalstrup is situated in the scenic Western Jutland on the eastern side of the inlet Nissum Fjord.
 The holiday house area of Skalstrup is a peaceful and recreational place with a lovely and varied nature as well as a bathing beach. An ideal holiday destination for especially nature lovers and anglers. It is possible to buy groceries and specialties in the town Vemb, situated about 8 km from Skalstrup. The commercial town Holstebro lies about 28 km east of Skalstrup.
Beach
A number of small sandy beaches with shallow water are available along the shores of the inlet Nissum Fjord, and both in and around Skalstrup you will find more beaches, suitable for children. You can also try out the wide and white sandy beaches of the North Sea, which are situated about 15 km from Skalstrup. F.x. by Fjaltring towards north you will find a good North Sea beach with dunes and fine sand.
The conditions for windsurfing are very good both in the inlet and in the North Sea.
Nature
The landscape around Skalstrup is very varied with inlet, streams, lakes, moorland plantations and fertile forest areas. The shallow inlet Nissum Fjord is an important resting place for wading birds and more places along the inlet you can experience protected areas with an incredibly rich vegetation and bird life.
The plantation Klosterhede Plantage is Denmark's largest transplanted forest. The forest is situated south of Lemvig and contains more relics minder from World War 2, f.x. airfields and bunkers, a large playground as well as many walking, bicycle and riding paths.
The dune plantation 'Husby Klitplantage', situated behind the high dunes by the beach of Husby, southwest of Skalstrup, has a very varied nature with i.a. many oaks, beeches, pines and firs. Outstanding nature experiences await you along the marked walking paths.
The lakes 'Husby Sø' and 'Nørre Sø', close to Husby, are the only freshwater lakes in the area. Here you will find a rich bird life.
Activities
In the area around Skalstrup you will find a number of good bicycle and walking paths.
Anglers have very good possibilities for a haul in the inlet as well as in the lakes and streams of the area. Furthermore, two scenically situated Put & Take fishponds are situated nearby, one near Vemb and the other one in Bøvlingbjerg.
Windsurfers can surf both on the calm inlet Nissum Fjord as well as in the waves of the North Sea. You will find one of the country's best golf courses near Holstebro, Holstebro Golfklub, about 15 minutes drive from Skalstrup.
If the weather is not suitable for a swim in the sea, you can visit the water world 'Holstebro Badeland', which offer an abundance of amenities for the whole family.
Worth a visit
Experience the various workshops in the area around Bøvlingbjerg, 11 km north of Skalstrup, where a number of artists reside. See how ornaments and pottery are manufactured here.
A few km south of Vemb you will find the only preserved manor house of the area 'Nørre Wosborg', which today function as a museum. The manor house is more than 700 years old and surrounded by a moat. Both the manor house and the park, belonging to it, are worth a visit.
Excursion spots
The commercial town Holstebro has a number of interesting specialist shops and good shopping possibilities in the traffic-free town centre. Furthermore, the town offers plenty of art and culture, cosy cafes and a beautiful environment around the stream (28 km).
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (45 km).
