Beautiful and relaxing nature - a fishing paradise close to many sights.
Your holiday home is located close to central Jutland¿s waterway, Karup Å, in a lovely natural area, where until 1960 lignite (brown coal) was excavated. Here you will find inviting lakes and numerous activity opportunities. The holiday area is particularly suitable for fishing holidays, but you can also go on biking holidays, go canoeing, tire yourself out running in the hilly terrain or paddle in the area¿s many waterways. There are also plenty of bathing opportunities at Limfjorden (about 50km away) and the wonderful North Sea with its white, sandy beaches and lively bathing spots. Karup is located centrally in relation to Holstebro (36km), Skive (29km), Viborg (35km) and Herning (30km). The four charming cities have a wealth of exciting shops, interesting museums and restaurants of repute.
Beach There are beautiful lakes in your holiday home area. You can go swimming in Lake Hald, 25km away. You can also go to Limfjorden and swim at Bremdal Beach situated in Venø Bay. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag and moreover, is a handicap friendly beach with facilities for the disabled. The next North Sea Beach lies 70km away. Vedersø Klit has one of the most wonderful white sandy beaches and is really worth a trip. The beach is five km long with high sand dunes and has also been awarded the Blue Flag.
Nature
Karup is situated in a flat heath land with numerous lakes, plantations, forests and moors. You can go on various walks in the Dollerup Hills and enjoy the beautiful view over Lake Hald, Denmark's second deepest lake. Enjoy the untouched and unique landscape with its interesting plants and animals and gain an insight into an area that is known as 'the heart of Denmark's ice age geology'. The recreational area Sund¿s Lake is the biggest heath land lake in Denmark, 128ha in area. It was formed at the end of the last ice age, about 12,000 years ago. Around the lake is a 5km long footpath, where you can either cycle or walk. Some of the distance can also be covered by car.
Activities Fårbæk Put and Take Lake is situated in the scenic area of Overfårbæk close to your holiday home. Here you can catch rainbow trout, and around the lake are tables, benches, toilets, bathing facilities, and a place to clean the fish that has running water. Not far from here is Hessellund Lake Camping, with as many as three Put and Take Lakes, of which two are very child friendly. Last but not least, Karup River is worth a visit. The waterway is beloved by anglers because of its outstanding sea trout. For those who are interested in golf, a trip to Herning Golf Club's well-kept 18-hole course with its numerous challenges, or Holstebro Golf Club in Råsted Plantation, which has a 9-hole and an 18-hole golf course, as well as a Pro-Shop and Golf Café, are recommended. Herning also has an indoor entertainment centre Baboon City where the whole family can try interactive amusements such as Lazerball (a new kind of paintball) and the biggest indoor slides in Denmark.
Worth a visit
Mønsted Limestone Caves have been in their time the world's biggest limestone mines. It's a marvellous place with small lakes and splashing streams that add a creepy, uncanny atmosphere (18km). Hjerl Hede is one of Denmark's biggest and most interesting excursion destinations for the whole family. The open air museum is known internationally for making history come alive, with workshops, living rooms and kitchens populated by people in period costume (21km). The Blicher Museum in Herning is situated on the restored manor of Herningsholm from 1579. The manor contains a unique collection about the moor's greatest poet, Steen Steensen Blicher. Also in Herning is Denmark's Photo Museum with a large collection of cameras and photographs, as well as Textilforum which is situated in Herning Klædefabrik's historic buildings. Through the exhibitions and the active workshops, different aspects of textile manufacture past and present come to life.
Excursion spots The Museum, Abildaa Brunkulsleje, was founded by former lignite workers, who wanted to tell the history of one of the major workplaces in the lignite mining era. Here you can experience how mining and daily life in the coalfields was during the years when lignite was excavated in the area. In the summer season the lignite fields are made to come alive through historic recreations (40km). The AQUA Freshwater Aquarium in Silkeborg takes its visitors on a fascinating journey into the Danish lakes and waterways. Through a large panoramic window you can follow the magic life above and below the water¿s surface and see the animals being fed (50km). Other sights are the Nørre Vosborg manor from the 17th century (52km) and Jesperhus Flowerpark, where as well as flowers and animals, there are also activities for children ¿ amongst other things a water world, playgrounds, pirate playground, wild west land, and a brand new 4-D cinema (57km).
