Hvide Sande is a compound of urban life, fishing harbour with activity and atmosphere, sights, beach and unspoiled nature.

The holiday area Hvide Sande is situated in a scenic heath and dune area in the centre of the isthmus Holmsland Klit and between the North Sea and the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord.
The vivid and cosy commercial town has the country's fifth largest fishing port with a large lock system towards the North Sea and furthermore, the town offers interesting museums, a candle factory, good shopping opportunities and more restaurants.
At the harbour you can experience countless fishing vessels as well as activity and atmosphere. You are also able to attend fish auctions at the harbour early in the morning or take part in special tourist auctions, which are arranged during the summer.
With its nature as well as its sights and activity opportunities, Hvide Sande is an attractive holiday destination for the whole family.

Beach

The long, wide and sandy beach by Hvide Sande offers good opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and beach activities. Dunes with lyme grass shelter the beach. It is possible to find amber on the beach - especially after days with strong winds from west or south-west.
You can also swim in the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, where the water is calmer than in the North Sea.

Nature

The high dune Troldebjerg by the lock in Hvide Sande is covered with beautiful plantation and has paths, which lead to the top. From here you can enjoy the good view of the sea, the entrance, the lock area and the town.
In addition to the North Sea and the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, large preserved nature areas with dunes and heath surround Hvide Sande. Between the dunes, scattered woods characterize the heath landscape. In spite of the rough nature, a large number of plants and animals thrive in this environment.
On the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the bottom of Ringkøbing Fjord you can experience a preserved bird sanctuary, where birds from all of Scandinavia rest on their journey between their winter quarters and breeding places. Magnificent nature scenery awaits you.

Activities

By the beach of Hvide Sande you can engage yourselves in beach activities, and should the weather let you down, you can visit a swimming baths or an aquapark nearby.
On the northern outskirts of Hvide Sande you will find the windsurfing centre 'Westwind', which has its own surf school, and here you can learn to windsurf, kitesurf and padlesurf. Near the surf spot Surfplads Nord you can try out Denmark¿s only cable drawn water ski course.
In summer fish auction are arranged for the tourists of Hvide Sande.
Anglers will find good opportunities in the North Sea, in Ringkøbing Fjord and in the Put & Take fishponds of the area. You can also go deep-sea fishing from the harbour in Hvide Sande.
Close to Søndervig you can play golf on the interesting 18-hole golf course of Holmsland Klit Golfklub (12 km).
In wintertime you can skate on Ringkøbing Fjord as well as fish through a hole in the ice.

Worth a visit

'Fiskernes Hus - Vestkystakvariet' in Hvide Sande is combined museum and aquarium. The salt-water aquariums contain fish and animals from the sea floor of Ringkøbing Fjord and the North Sea, and the museum informs through interesting exhibitions about the story of the fish - from the sea to the consumer.
In the cosy candle factory 'Hvide Sande Lys' you can dip your own candles.
From the 38 m high lighthouse 'Nr. Lyngvig Fyr', 6 km north of Hvide Sande, you can enjoy the amazing view of the water and the landscape. By the foot of the lighthouse you can learn more about the plants and animals of the area.
The regional museum 'Abelines Gård' is a well-preserved wreck master farm from the 1860'ies, which is very scenically situated, 7 km south of Hvide Sande. Here you get an idea of how the people of this region lived in the old days.

Excursion spots

'Fiske- og Familiepark West' in Hee is a playground for the whole family. You can make use of an aquapark, drive in go-carts, stroke goats, jump on bouncing cushions, ride with a train, play on a playground and fish in 3 fishponds (28 km).
The preserved bird sanctuary Tipperne by Ringkøbing Fjord is a bird Mekka - thousands of migratory birds can be observed here (30 km).
In the viking harbour 'Bork Vikingehavn' you can experience viking ships, a viking farm and an exhibition. The area is vitalized during the high season (38 km).
The stranding museum 'Strandingsmuseet St. George' in Torsminde gives you an insight into everyday life onboard the wrecked English warships 'St. George' and 'Defence'. See the interesting finds like f.x. canons, gold coins, music instruments and weapons (45 km).
In 'Jyllands Park Zoo' by Videbæk you can stroke, cuddle and feed the more than 700 animals (45 km).
LEGOLAND offers knights in armours, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (103 km).
