Henne Strand is a cosy and recreational holiday paradise for the whole family.
Henne Strand is a refuge at the Jutland west coast, and here is room for everyone. The magnificent and unique nature, the lovely beach and the many leisure activities make Henne Strand a coveted holiday resort. In the cosy and evocative holiday town you will find a number of restaurants and cafés. Furthermore, a water world, a minigolf course and more playgrounds are available here. The town Henne, which is situated about 3 km from the beach, offers good shopping possibilities and more restaurants.
Beach Henne Strand has one of Europe¿s widest and most beautiful sandy beaches with soft high dunes, which stretch into the country. The beach is traffic-free and has the Blue Flag. An ideal place for bathing, sunbathing, playing beach volley or pétanque, building sand castles, walking and searching for amber. Kite flying is also a very popular activity here.
Nature
Behind the dunes of the beach one of Denmark's largest plantations, Blåbjerg Klitplantage, is situated. With its heather, forest and brushwood it is cut out for long hikes or rides on bicycle and horseback. The plantation is named after the mountain 'Det Blå Bjerg' (the blue mountain), which is the most highly situated dune in the country - 64 m above sea level. In the oak forest, which is buried in sand, only the top branches are visible in the sand these days. Experience the scenic sight of the blooming heather in the late summer, or go on search for wild berries. The area around Henne Strand is a Mekka for bird enthusiasts. The peninsula Tipperne in the southern end of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is a resting place for thousands of wading birds, ducks and goose. In the dog forest of the plantation Ål Klitplantage, close to Oksbøl, the dog is allowed to walk without a leash. However, it is a condition that the owner has complete control of his dog.
Activities Along the sea and the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, windsurfers will find some of Europe¿s best surf conditions. An 18-hole international and uniquely situated golf course is available only 3 km from Henne Strand. Furthermore, Henne offers a water world, tennis courts, minigolf as well as bicycle and horse rental. Anglers have good opportunities for a haul both at the sea and at the inlet as well as in the streams and lakes of the area.
Worth a visit
The area has many beautiful whitewashed churches, of which the churches in Henne and Lønne are the most interesting. In the town of Henne you will find candle factories, glassblowers, amber-cutter¿s as well as antique shops. At the whale museum in Nymindegab you can see the skeleton of a 12 m long sperm whale, which was stranded on the beach of Nymindegab in 1990. The regional museum Blåbjerg Egnsmuseum tells the story of the area from the antiquity and up until today. The post Tirpitz-Stillingen in Blåvand is a reopened bunker, which shows an exhibition about the role of post in the German coastal defence.
Excursion spots The marsh area, south of Blåvand, as well as the preserved bird sanctuary Tipperne at the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord are bird Mekkas - thousands of migratory birds can be observed here. LEGOLAND, app. 70 km from Henne Strand, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities. In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area. Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries a.s.o. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting.
