Hemmet is located in quiet and scenic surroundings by forest and an inlet.


Holiday Hemmet, Western Jutland, DenmarkThe small town Hemmet is situated in the southern end of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord, between Bork Havn and Skaven Strand. By Hemmet the nature is lovely and varied, and you have the North Sea, the dunes, the moor, the lake Skjern Å and the bird sanctuary Tipperne within reach.
Here you can hike, drive on bicycle, fish, surf, swim, ride on horses, watch birds, fly with kite or sail on the inlet.
The holiday house area, the inlet and the boat harbour are situated about 4 km from the town. It is possible to buy groceries in the town of Hemmet.


Beach
Hemmet has a good and sandy beach, however the beach is not as wide as the ones by the North Sea. The water is shallow and therefore the beach is ideal for families with small children. The sunset can be enjoyed from here. You are not allowed to bring your car to the beach.
The inlet is also very suitable for windsurfing.
About 15 km from Hemmet lays the North Sea and the beach Nymindegab Strand, where you will find the long, fine and sandy beaches with dunes and Blue Flag.

Nature
HemmetBy Hemmet you are able to enjoy the wild and unspoilt Jutland nature along the inlet or along a nature path, which leads you all the way to Bork Havn.
Dejbjerg, north of Hemmet, has a quite unique nature. Forest areas and stretches of moor characterize the undulating terrain of Dejbjerg. From the highest points in the area you will have a view of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord.
The stream Skjern Å and the meadow area Skjern Enge both have an exceptional bird life. Skjern Å is the most abounding in water in all of Denmark and has a number of turnings and windings. Here you will find peace, silence and idyll. The bird song and the soughing are the only sounds you will hear.
Tipperne is a preserved bird sanctuary, situated on the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the bottom of the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. Birds from all of Scandinavia stay here a while on their way between their winter quarters and their breeding areas.

Activities
The area invites hikes in the forest and along the inlet, where you will find a path, leading all the way to Bork Havn. Enjoy the silence and the unspoiled nature on food or on bicycle.
The beach of Hemmet also offers good surf possibilities. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. Gear for surfing can be rented by the surfing schools in Bork Havn.
This area is ideal for anglers, and you can fish in the inlet as well as in the lakes and rivers of the area.
Furthermore, it is possible to rent riding horses, observe birds, fly with kite or sail on the inlet.


Worth a visit
HemmetIn the viking harbour Bork Vikingehavn you will be set back 1,000 years. Experience the viking ships in the harbour, the viking farm and the exhibition. The area is vitalized during the high season.
Every year a new exhibition with natural art of various artists is shown at the museum 'Fahl Kro'.
The mill Bundsbæk Mølle is one of the few preserved watermills in western Jutland. You can also see a forge and a bakery here.
Skjern Vindmølle is one of the few functioning windmills, where corn is milled to flour.
In the iron age village Dejbjerg Jernalder you can follow the people of the iron age in their daily chores. At the exhibition, belonging to the village, you can learn about life in western Jutland in the iron age.
In the house Hattemagerhuset in Tarm you can sense the daily life in a farmworker house around the year 1900.
The farm Gåsemandens Gård is an original, gently restored moorland farm from the year 1789.

Excursion spots
Visit the old and pretty provincial town Ringkøbing. The town is characterized by its houses with red tiled roofs and its old cobbled streets (45 km).
LEGOLAND, app. 65 km from Hemmet, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities.
In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area.
Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries and much more. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting.
