Gjellerodde is a lovely and quiet holiday area in an interesting and varying landscape.
 Gjellerodde is situated on a small tongue of land at the bottom of the bank Nissum Bredning by the mild inlet Limfjorden. All of the holiday houses in the area lie close to the water, and from most of them there is a view of the inlet. Gjellerodde has a few shops and a restaurant.
At the inlet, 5 km south of Gjellerodde, you will find the provincial town Lemvig. The town has an active commercial life, small cafés, good restaurants as well as an enterprising fishing harbour. The sea front between Gjellerodde and Lemvig invites evening strolls along the water.
Beach
The lovely bathing beach at Gjellerodde is quiet and safe for children. The water is clean and the beach has Blue Flag. The bay is suited for windsurfing and sailing. The nearest North Sea beach is Vejlby Klit Strand - a very fine sandy beach with dunes and many sheltered hollows. However small areas with stones can occur. Be aware that the water is deep only a few metres out in the water. You are not allowed to bring your car to the beach.
Nature
A number of marked paths lead you through the magnificent and varying nature in and around Gjellerodde and Lemvig. One of these paths is 'Planetstien', which is a model of the solar system in the scale 1:1 billion. The route is 12 km long and goes through the park 'Lemvigs Lystanlæg' and along the beach. On the way you will experience a rich vegetation and bird life.
The landscape around Gjellerodde is low, level and characterized by moor. However, towards north you will find small plantations with pines. Furthermore a number of lagoons can be found in the area.
The 60 hectares lake Gjeller Sø is a bird sanctuary and a scientifically interesting area with a well-developed bottom vegetation.
Activities
The area offer a number of leisure activities, such as paragliding, kite flying, windsurfing, fishing in the sea and the Put & Take fishponds, swimming, horseback riding, beach volley, bowling and golf.
Bicycles can be rented in the area.
The golf course at Gjellerodde is scenically situated - right out to the inlet. The bay is very well suited for sailing and surfing.
In the summer time you can go on a circular tour on the inlet from Lemvig.
Worth a visit
The regional farm Gjellergård is situated along the route of the path 'Planetstien'. The restored building represents the building style of the Western Jutland fishermen and farmers. The old part of the farm is fitted up as a museum and here you can experience different workshops during the summer.
You can also visit some of the areas many artists and craftsmen in their studios and workrooms.
Excursion spots
Lemvig offers many cultural sights, more museums, good shopping possibilities and restaurants. At the harbour of Lemvig, which primarily function as a fishing harbour, public fish auctions are arranged every morning.
In Thyborøn, 24 km from Gjellerodde, you will find the aquarium 'Jylland Akvariet', where you can stroke a shark on its head and hold a crab in your hand, and 'Kystcentret', which is an interesting experience and communication centre for the whole family, as well as 'Sneglehuset' - a house, decorated with millions of sea shells both inside and outside.
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (54 km).
The flower park 'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' on the Liim Fiord island Mors also offers a jungle zoo and a play land. The park is one of the largest of its kind in Scandinavia (82 km).
